I mean to resist this. Make no mistake. I have said so from the very moment I heard this idea leave 0bama's lips back in September '08. He'll rue the day he signs this into law if the legislation passes...which I predict it won't.
I was just presenting a little punnery in response to your post.

We’ve been volunteered.
As I’ve said many times, Dear Leader’s slogan of “Change” is not a goal: it’s a demand.

`(1) for the inclusion of services and arrangements for the benefit of such students so as to allow for the equitable participation of such students in the programs implemented to carry out the objectives and provide the benefits described in this part; and
`(2) for the training of the teachers of such students so as to allow for the equitable participation of such teachers in the programs implemented to carry out the objectives and provide the benefits described in this part.
`(b) Waiver- If a State, Territory, Indian tribe, or local educational agency is prohibited by law from providing for the participation of students or teachers from private nonprofit schools as required by subsection (a), or if the Corporation determines that a State, Territory, Indian tribe, or local educational agency substantially fails or is unwilling to provide for such participation on an equitable basis, the Chief Executive Officer shall waive such requirements and shall arrange for the provision of services to such students and teachers. It makes me feel sick inside. If anyone else has another take please share? I kind of like the idea if it were used in a positive way.
I think Israel has mandatory service for it's young people. I like the idea of the discipline of military service which instills national pride.
We have a great country but we are at a tipping point where we have more takers than we have givers. Everybody wants their "rights" but nobody ever talks about responsibilities.
If it were done correctly, I believe we could revive the American spirit which started to wither away fifty years ago.
That being said, if the present socialist administration has anything to do with it, it could spell the end of freedom as we know it.

The program talks about earning "educational awards" via this service. .....
I predict that this will be seen as a way to ensure that only the politically-correct will have access to professional careers. There's another little gem to add to your list. It is the goal of the program that by 2011, at least 50% of the participants will be from disadvantaged youth (as defined in other sections of the bill).

Wrong.
If you want to create an army of government indoctrinated robots fine. Otherwise it will lead to disaster. A army of kids to do their "social duty" by letting authorities know you put the wrong trash in the wrong recycle bin. Watered your garden at an unapproved time. Your porch light was on during the day. You had known disruptive people visit your home. There is no end to the government controlling an army of people where only government gets to set their priorities and define what is good for the whole or not. And what is "good" for the whole may not be good for the individual. America is about individual rights not what's best for the whole through the eyes of an elite social engineer accountable to no one.
If people want to go to college on the taxpayers dime join the military. Oh, we already do that...
This wrong in so many ways it is painful to have explain why...

When I read this bill, I thought my heart was being pulled out of my chest.
Maybe this Bill is being tossed onto the House Floor to distract Congress away from the BUDGET. Congress has to STOP Obama's Budget too. Who knows?
"The first step in community organization is community disorganization. The disruption of the present organization is the first step toward community organization. Present arrangements must be disorganized if they are to be displace by new patterns.... All change means disorganization of the old and organization of the new." -Saul Alinsky,p.116, Rules for Radicals

Problem is it would take me all today, tomorrow and the next day (at least) to read it, and I still would not understand one word. I'll save you the trouble. It's all a bunch of horsedung, take my word for it.

So ....are we all agreed Obama is pure evil yet?
I do not wish him well. He needs to be impeached before he causes any more angst or damage to our Republic.

Bless you - any volunteer service is done through the Church for God, whom this country was founded on. That is how I serve my fellow man.
My government, who stinkin' works for me, dammit, will never demand that I, or my child perform public service involuntarily. I give it to my God.

That’s like saying if socialism was “done correctly” it would positive.
It aways leads to the same end. Pain and suffering.
Once you decided to take that road your destination is a given. It then only becomes a matter of how long it will take to get there.
The wiser choice is to not start down that road in the first place.
