So what happens? We don't get our social security checks unless we "partake in service opportunities"?

The stupid thing is many (most?) of us already volunteer in some capacity at some time. Of course, it’s none of the govt’s business if we do or don’t, but Americans tend to be very giving in that regard.

‘encourage members of the Baby Boom generation to partake in service opportunities’

‘They can stuff it sideways.’

That’s right. I’m 62. I haven’t had a raise in 5 years due to being a contractor - I’m lucky to be working, WHEN I am working. I have to compete with cheaper labor that comes here with H1B visas, as well as outsourcing -

Will probably work another 5 years at least. I DO NOt plan to ‘partake in service opportunities’ at the end of that time. I plan to partake in spending time with grandchildren, greatgrandchildren, sleeping in, knitting, sewing, reading and gardening.

Let’s let the folks who think this plan is a good one, spend their retirement years in the service of the great Oz. If I or my husband wants to volunteer, we will volunteer on our terms, at a facility of our choice, which might be the USAF Museum in Dayton, OH, or possibly one of our hospitals where volunteers are needed to answer questions and direct visitors.

And what is the nonsense about sending our kids to countries who are transitioning to democracy from totalitarianism?

Will they be asking the little NK gnome if he is planning on transistioning to democracy, and send our kids there to help out in the gulags?

My Dad is 90 and is getting an award next week for 7000 hours of volunteering at the USAF Museum. He did not need to be ordered to do it.

I despise this administration and all it stands for, and I’m not too happy about the way the GOP is bending over and taking it.

I guess this bill would also be a great way to attempt to kill off any form of religious volunteerism, such as the missionary work done by the Mormon Church (whether you agree with it or not) and other religious activities - I;m sure that killing off any connection with organized religion is a major piece of this legislature -
