MOSCOW (AP) - If you're inclined to believe Igor Panarin, and the Kremlin wouldn't mind if you did, then President Barack Obama will order martial law this year, the U.S. will split into six rump-states before 2011, and Russia and China will become the backbones of a new world order.
Panarin might be easy to ignore but for the fact that he is a dean at the Foreign Ministry's school for future diplomats and a regular on Russia's state-guided TV channels. And his predictions fit into the anti-American story line of the Kremlin leadership.
"There is a high probability that the collapse of the United States will occur by 2010," Panarin told dozens of students, professors and diplomats Tuesday at the Diplomatic Academy—a lecture the ministry pointedly invited The Associated Press and other foreign media to attend.

His scenario is plausible, except for the six. An unconstitutional putsch by Obama could split the country, but I suspect three pieces, which would quickly be reduced to two: Alaska; a rump Federal block loyal to Obama consisting of the Northeast (including Ohio), West Coast, Virginia, Illinois, Wisconsin and Minnesota; and the rest of the lower 48.
I’m guessing Alaska would rejoin the New Union in the lower 48 fairly soon. Maybe Hawaii would go independent, maybe it would stay with Obama, and maybe some heavily Mexican border counties would try to join Mexico (though not if they knew what was good for them).
I’m guessing the inland rural parts of the West Coast states, and downstate Illinois and parts of Ohio and Virginia would secede from their states and join the New Union. The New Union would have all the farms, most of the military bases and most of the natural resources. Obama’s rump state would be left with most of the population, and no way to support them. There would be some nasty fighting in the pro-Obama cities of states in the New Union, and in areas where the rural population tries to secede from a pro-Obama state.
Not quite, the Okies and us Kansans are still pumping and refining oil. Of course, we’d like to end up in the same successor state with you Texans (otherwise what would happen to Big 12 football?).
I believe this guy to the extent that starting about summer of 2010 the first shots of the Social War will be fired.
As we say here in the Confederacy: if at first you don’t secede, try, try again. After all, it was only 139 years ago, a mere eye-blink in historic terms.
(There is something eerily prescient about the scene where folks from the CIA first turn up and are introduced as representing the American Empire.)
I believe a split like he’s talking about is the only hope we have for liberty.
The dems are acting fast to use the power of the fedgov to make sure that there is never another fair election, and that they will perpetually be in power.
Let them be in power, of about 20 liberal states that want to be socialist. The rest of us will live our lives in freedom and personal responsibility.

‘Rump’ in politics means a small remnant. As in the “rump parliament” during the English Civil War.

What would “collapse of the United States” look like? I don’t understand. Will we all fall down? Will the states all become independent>? Not sure what those words mean
I pretty well agree with your take, especially regarding how rural areas of states like Illinois would break off to join the rest of flyover country. My own county in rural IL voted for Keyes over Obama in the 2004 Senate elections, for crying out loud. If there is a breakup Obama will get a bunch of cities full of angry stupid people, and very little else.
