A group of 26 Catholic leaders, scholars and theologians Mar. 1 publicly expressed support for the nomination of Governor Sebelius as the next HHS secretary .
They issued a statement calling attention to Sebelius successful efforts at reducing abortion in Kansas as well as the Catholic faiths long standing support for universal health care.
Sebelius Feb. 28th accepted President Obama's request to become his Health and Human Services secretary.
As faithful Catholics we proudly offer our support to Governor Kathleen Sebelius, who has been nominated to head the Department of Health and Human Services, statement read.
Governor Sebelius is a woman of deep faith with a proud family history of public service. We believe Governor Sebelius record of building the common good, reforming immigration laws, improving schools, innovating health care solutions, and significantly reducing the abortion rate in Kansas, makes her an excellent candidate for HHS Secretary.
Governor Sebelius has demonstrated civility and a new kind of politics that both earned her the respect and collaboration of Republican allies and delivered results for the citizens of Kansas. In addition to offering our support, we also reject the tactics of those who would use Gov. Sebelius faith to attack her. As Catholics, we find such partisan use of our religion regrettable and divisive.
The statement was organized by Catholics United, a Washington-based non-profit that promotes the churchs social teachings and the mission of justice and peace.
What are the facts? the statements signers asked. Kathleen Sebelius has made clear that she agrees with church teaching that abortion is wrong and has lived and acted according to that belief. As governor she has worked to reduce the number of abortions by supporting expanded prenatal care and adoption incentives, expanding health services for Kansas families, and providing a variety of support services for families."
The statement went on to say that among other actions, Governor Sebelius:
Affordable and accessible health care is an essential safeguard of human life and a fundamental human right. With an estimated 47 million Americans lacking health care coverage, it is also an urgent national priority. Reform of the nation's health care system needs to be rooted in values that respect human dignity, protect human life, and meet the needs of the poor and uninsured, especially born and unborn children, pregnant women, immigrants, and other vulnerable populations.

Are these people board members of abotion clinics in Kansas?
disgusting apologists
May they ALL have to face an aborted child’s soul at the hour of their own deaths
Time for some de-frocking.
For gosh sake, Adolph Hitler fed his own dogs and they loved him for it.
The only two of those folks with whom I'm familiar are Kmiec, one of That One's biggest apologists, and Steinfels, who can always be counted on to push the most liberal ideas for the Church.
They certainly don't represent the Catholic Church, only their own liberal political interests.
Since there are no consequences from the Church for the public support of abortion, it is not unreasonable to assume that the Church does not actually disapprove.
50+% of Catholics elected a baby killer who is all for abortion on demand and sending doctors to jail for NOt killing babies.
The Catholic Church supported and still supports ACORN which helped elect Obama.
That is so sad.
The three Fathers on that list need to be called to Rome.
BZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZTTTTTT
WTH?
Isaiah 5:20
20 Woe to those who call evil good
and good evil,
who put darkness for light
and light for darkness,
who put bitter for sweet
and sweet for bitter.
Well, actually, Sebelius has already been asked by her own bishop not to receive communion, which is essentially the same as telling her she’s not a practicing Catholic any more.
The Church has withdrawn its support for ACORN.
Cafardi is the guy who was removed from the Steubenville Board of Trustees for his support of BHO.
“Catholics United” is a leftwing front group pretending to be Catholic, and for all I can tell, is just a handful of leftists at that. There was also a group called “Catholics for a Free Choice” - which was just a leftist pro-abortion group run by one socialist agitator.
If an organization with a religious title seems to be petitioning for something completely at odds with the core beliefs, then it’s a front group. Think Catholics agitating for public funding of abortion - easy pick to be a front group.
Its gift wrapped right there for excommunication by the Pope...take the announcement list and make your own! Time to make a stand!
It is the Catholic hospitals that will close first, preceded only by a few rural clinics and hospitals illegals have sucked dry.
I believe Catholic hospitals to be the backbone of healthcare. So, yes, let’s give Sebelius a medal and Sainthood after it all shakes out.
