A Camp Lejeune Marine has been charged with threatening Barack Obama before the president was sworn into office last month.
Obama is scheduled to deliver a speech from the base in Jacksonville today.
Kody Ray Brittingham, 20, faces up to five years in prison and three years of supervised release if convicted of threatening the president-elect, according to U.S. Attorney George E.B. Holding.
Brittingham also could be fined up to $250,000.
According to a news release, Brittingham told people in November that he intended to shoot Obama, among other things.
We take all threats against the president and other high officials of the United States very seriously, Holding said. The threat itself represents a disruption of the United States government, even if no actual attempt is made to carry out the threat.
In todays speech, Obama is expected to unveil his plans to withdraw combat troops from Iraq. He is scheduled to arrive on Air Force One at the Cherry Point Marine Corps Air station in the morning, according to a White House news release.
Obama will speak from the Goettge Memorial Field House about 11:45 a.m., the release said.
what about all threats against Palin or Bush? Just freesdom of expression?
So what was the supposed threat?
Threats against Palin? They burnt down her church.
And obama is going to Lejeune?
He is alleged to have threatened to shoot him.. not smart at all..
I wonder if the Marine has a defense fund.
There are better people do defend, if this guy did make the statement he did, he is an idiot.
You should never make threats against a President, no matter how dispicable they are.
I despise Carter, Clinton and Zero with every fiber of my being, but I wouldn’t be stupid enough to threaten them with violence.
It’s not as if he threatened to kidnap Bush or made a film about whacking him.
Exactly, no matter what you feel about a president, an attack on him is an attack on the office which is basically declaring war on this country. You don't like him, go the legal channels.
“It was this type of conduct that may have allowed for the recruitment of Marine Lance Corporal Kody Brittingham, who, as of last December, was found to be heavily connected with the white nationalist movement and is now under federal investigation for premeditating a plot to assassinate Obama.”

Have no info on credibility on the source, but if Europe knows about this it is interesting. Nothing in the news here.
Agreed. Threatening any president with violence is over the top.
If someone is going to do something illegal it is not smart a all to go around babbling about it.

Why not start one?
Don't ask for my money though. Anybody (military or civilian) stupid enough to threaten any POTUS (elect) is too stupid to be worth it.
While I agree it wasn’t smart of him to make a threat, there may be extenuating circumstances. Perhaps the Marine is suffering from post traumatic stress, or maybe he lost his house, or maybe he is pissed that he isn’t going to get a raise while deadbeats are going to get their mortgages paid.
Like what, voting? Legal channels like ACORN?
What’s your opinion on the two officers that are questioning the CiC’s eligibility?
> There are better people do defend, if this guy did make the statement he did, he is an idiot.
It is true, he is an idiot if he said this. However, he is only a 20 year-old idiot and he is entitled to a defense. Twenty-year-olds aren’t always known for being particularly bright — they’re often overgrown teenagers.
And Obama is on his own. He runs with a rough crowd. Some of his friends among the Leftwingtards and mad bombers he pals around with will probably take care of all his (and our) problems sooner rather than later.
Frankly, I'm not concerned with that guy's safty ~ and he's obviously not either.
