House Speaker Nancy Pelosi tossed cold water on the prospect of reinstating the assault weapons ban, highlighting Democrats reluctance to take on gun issues.
Attorney General Eric Holder raised the prospect Wednesday that the administration would push to bring back the ban. But Pelosi (D-Calif.) indicated on Thursday that he never talked to her. The Speaker gave a flat no when asked if she had talked to administration officials about the ban.
On that score, I think we need to enforce the laws we have right now, Pelosi said at her weekly news conference. I think it's clear the Bush administration didnt do that.
Outside of the dig at the recent Republican president, that phrase is the stock line of those who dont want to pass new gun control laws, such as the National Rifle Association.
The White House declined to comment on Holder's remarks, referring reporters to the Department of Justice. The DoJ did not respond to The Hill's request for comment.
I do in this case. I think the Democrats in Congress understand that running pro-gun Democrats is a big reason they have their majority in the first place. They don’t want to endanger that.
I’ll control my own guns thank you. If you don’t want to get hurt don’t try to stop me.
I hope you’re right, but I basically never trust anything Pelosi says anyway.
This is how I imagine the conversation went.
Obama: “OK, you come out for the fairness doctrine, but I’ll say I have no intention of revisiting it. Then I’ll have Holder talk about gun laws, and you say you have more important things to worry about right now.”
Pelosi: “And we’ll draft legislation on both and get back to you.”
Of course! The one group with balls!....gun owners and the N.R.A.
It’s more expensive than it would have been last year, but it wasn’t as high as I thought it would be.
Only downside to buying now is that I had to spend the money now...I would rather have waited, but it needed to be done regardless. Inventory was pretty well stocked. The AK’s were pretty cheap too considering some of the prices I’ve seen online.
And when I get out of this socialist hellhole I can finally buy handguns for the whole family with CCW’s all around... :)
They are starting to get worried they are pushing too much, too fast.
And that would be correct.
BINGO! She understands how they won the House in 2006, and how they can lose it. They don't want to repeat 1994 in 2010.
They ARE pushing too much, too fast,
and it’s not just losing the congress in 2010 that they should be worried about.
Google “bubba effect”
You'd think so, wouldn't you, but sometimes I wonder.
Sometimes I get the feeling that it has not occurred to them yet just how personal the unintended consequences of their misguided efforts and policies might become; that they believe they (and their extended "they") will be somehow above it all, somehow immune. They apparently believe they can stomp all over our liberties with no repercussions other than perhaps being voted into a cushy retirement.
Huh.
I'm not advocating violence, you understand, just observing and pondering.
Theoretically she and others of the political class are not immune from physical blowback, but realistically, they are. Their security apparatus sees to it.
No, the people who will pay the price for their adventures in power collection are the citizens the purportedly represent and, to a lesser extent, the footsoldiers assigned to execute their wishes.
While I do agree with you for the most part, nothing is ever 100%. They have to get it right every time. There is more than one way to skin a cat, and a lot of very intelligent, very experienced (and potentially, should they push hard enough, very dedicated) cat skinners out there these days.

Yep. That's what I meant by a "target rich environment for both sides". Lots of watering for the Tree, I fear.
I just bought ten additional AR-15 PMAG mags and two more Walther P-99 mags.
I fired off emails to my senators and congressman reminding them of the definition of unconsitutional. I will follow up with calls tomorrow.
I dont think fancy Nancy the botox queen wants to deal with guns now..
Where are you getting your 6.8 ammo and how much is it costing you if I may ask?
makes you wonder if they're hearing the rumbling Bubbas...
Thats fine..let her worry..she cares not one whit about the chattering classes..we are sheep to be led to her.
the reality that people are buying guns like the russians are coming may be sinking in to them.
The more rifles and 30 round mags we buy them more sleep they lose because they know 95% of the buyers won’t turn them over to the govt.

I've been stocking up on their 115 Grain Sierra OTM Enhanced Fragmentation round. They charge about $19/box in quantity. I haven't had the chance to try it yet, but it's been getting good reviews.
No chance there will be white box winchester or remington fodder for it anytime soon eh?
what is the distance of your longest accurate shot with that round?
