Shelby not suspicious ..Says remark "distorted

Sen. Richard Shelby (R-Ala.) said today that he has no doubts about President Obama’s citizenship and that a news account. . .

. . .from a town hall meeting last weekend that suggested he did was erroneous.

Shelby, in a brief interview with POLITICO after he appeared at the White House, dismissed a report in the Cullman (Ala.) Times in which he was captured as indulging a constituent’s question about whether the president was born on American soil, a widely debunked rumor held over from the presidential campaign.

“Someone asked me that in a meeting and basically what I did is paraphrase, you know just quote for the crowd, what they said and I said that has been settled,” Shelby recounted today, calling his remark “distorted.”

In the Cullman Times, Shelby was quoted as saying: “Well his father was Kenyan and they said he was born in Hawaii, but I haven’t seen any birth certificate. You have to be born in America to be president.”

Shelby’s staff quickly said the paper had offered an incomplete account of the senator’s remarks. No video or audio tape has emerged from the meeting.

Shelby, who as the senior Republican on the Senate Banking Committee was appearing with Obama and other members of Congress to discuss financial regulation, made clear that he believed the president was a citizen.

“[I] never had any doubts,” he said. “I didn’t raise the doubt. They raised it in a meeting.”

Shelby, who was captured on television Tuesday night chatting with Obama before his address to Congress, said he had not addressed the issue with the president.

“No, he didn’t bring it up. He wouldn’t dignify it.”

Out of 535 members of Congress, you’d think at least one would say “show me”, even if it was just to satisfy curiosity! I smell a conspiracy or blackmail of some sort.

I can show my birth certificate, my college transcripts, my master’s thesis, and my passport! BHO’s minions have made sure nothing comparable will ever see the light of day. And yet the MSM does not dare to wonder why...

Shelby spoke the truth. Truth no longer matters to the media.

question about whether the president was born on American soil, a widely debunked rumor held over from the presidential campaign

If it was debunked, where is the evidence? A modern certificate that was provided to a couple of liberal blogs?

Much like Kerry's military record was never released to the public, it was just shown to some friendly souls at the Boston Glob.

Tell the lie often enough and the public will accept it as truth.

Even Obama himself, in speaking this week about Gitmo, said that perception is truth.

Well, Shelby may not be “suspicious” but I sure as hell am!

Why, would anyone spend close to a MILLION DOLLARS fighting court actions when they could spend $12.50 to prove their citizenship! Hussein has something to hide. PERIOD!

“a widely debunked rumor held over from the presidential campaign.”

Reminds me of the swift boat days. The press kept saying the debuinked swift boat vets... They say it enough, it becomes true

They obviously all work for the same people and it’s not us citizens. Otherwise the republicans would be using this issue to blackmail the “in power” democrats to get their way re their complaints about what BO is doing. Clearly that isn’t happening. Smoke and mirrors until the national face change is complete.

There's an Army NG major who's refused deployment on the grounds that he will only obey a lawful order of a President who meets the Constitutional qualifications. This will, if he is determined, provide standing to demand in Federal court proof of Obama's qualification.

As much as I disapprove of most everything he has done and proposed, the nation does not need a Constitutional crisis at this time. And this would be a crisis only behind the the Civil War and the South Carolina Ordinance of Nullification. America does not need this now. But it may happen. If he's a natural born citizen why has he passed on any and every attempt to prove it?

... Shelby was quoted as saying: “Well his father was Kenyan and they said he was born in Hawaii, but I haven’t seen any birth certificate. You have to be born in America to be president.”

I think his comment should be repeated over and over and attributed to him at every opportunity that it can be used!

Shelby can deny it all he wants and his denial should never be mentioned. That is exactly what the Libs do.
