When in the Course of human events it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bands which have connected them with another and to assume among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature's God entitle them, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation.

Prudence, indeed, will dictate that Governments long established should not be changed for light and transient causes; and accordingly all experience hath shewn that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed. But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security.

That may be just what every FReeper needs to do, and if we can get any/all of our friends, neighbors and family to do it too. Pile theirs desks with the same thing from everyone.
Nearly everyone knows the phrase about Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness, but it is this phrase that is the real "meat" of the Declaration of Independence. The Rights of the People are God-given, eternal and immutable, they belong to us every bit as much as they belonged to Washington, Adams, Jefferson and Franklin and for us to ignore these Rights is an affront to our Founding Fathers.
If WE are not willing to pledge "our Lives, our Fortunes and our sacred Honor," it is because we lack the Founders' "firm reliance on the protection of divine Providence."
Add tyrants to my list.

I fear, and truly regret, that they are going to need to have this lesson proved to them. Being a vet, I truly hope not, yet my duty is clear, and my oath demands no less. May God have mercy on us.

To my way of thinking, we are one spark away from an all out rebellion. That spark will be a leader to step forward and be a Thomas Paine, to incite like Samuel Adams or Patrick Henry, to risk all like Thomas Jefferson, James Madison and above all, be a conciliator like Benjamin Franklin.
Senator Coburn has asked us to take to the streets. Rush Limbaugh exhorts us to act. Ann Coulter continually pokes her finger in the Cyclop’s eye. Are they the only ones? Will we follow where they lead? Or is American Idol more important than the American republic? You decide; I already have.

In the Declaration of Independence the founders were referring to a foreign government. Unfortunately now we face these same obstacles but with our own government.
Here’s hoping their brilliant system of checks and balances will help minimize the damage. But no guarantee and we are now a secular nation...the founders warned about government where God and religion were suppressed like the French Revolution in their day.

No offense, but the colonies revolted over being taxed far less than we are permitting ourselves to be taxed now. And this does not even take into consideration the debt this president is forcing us into, on top of that.
