Breaking news on Philadelphia local TV - Philadelphia "Inquirer" and "Daily News" are filing for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy - company says papers will continue to publish, filing is to retire debt primarily -
I would not compare the Wash Times to the WaPo.
WaPo is, for better or worse, considered to be the paper of record in DC. The Times, rightly so, is considered to be a conservative paper.
I know many conservatives who read both.
I would guess, based on my discussion with DC libs, that they would never consider picking up the Times.
there is an examiner on line....
Is the Washington Times in serious financial trouble?
Hopefully The Bulletin will roll on forever!
I get crap from the NY Slimes in the mail and I just send back the BRM empty so they have to pay the postage.
Petty, I know, yet satisfying.
Many Americans are turning to The Daily Show for their news.
Forgot the phrase “go down” re: liberal papers. Too early.
What's so bad about our mediaopoly here in Houston? /sarc
They are looking for Fast Eddie to bail them out.
Listen to Chris Freind of the Philadelphia Bulletin:

I feel for the average joes who are going to lose their jobs because of this, but at the same time, it couldn’t happen to a more biased and corrupt media outlet.
Maybe the reason the left is trying to destroy the free market is precisely because, like in this example and Air America radio, the free market is actually working exactly the way it should.
“Theres no better source to get local news and no better medium to follow around corrupt local politicos that the national media doesnt care about.”
My local radio station does a good job. When they are not playing Boorts, Jerry Doyle, Savage, Rusty Humphries et al. They have a local guy doing a morning show to about 9 am. All local, county and state topics.
Well, there's nothing to stop you from creating your own local "paper" [internet-based local news outlet].
In this day and age, the start-up costs are essentially zero.
It’s only a good thing if they don’t get our money in a bailout.
Theres no better source to get local news and no better medium to follow around corrupt local politicos that the national media doesnt care about. It can happen when clubby insiders supposedly investigate other insiders.
Except they cover for their buddies
I'm not worried about a lack of coverage. In fact I think the new structure will enable more complete and intensive coverage that heretofore was excluded due to these barriers.Amen! News makers can finally use new media to directly connect with people and drop the corporate middle man with a hidden agenda who touts his own objectivity while spewing adjective adverbial shading to twist the news.
I am becoming increasingly convinced that the wealthy, powerful, and somewhat archaic media conglomerates that have controlled the messaging to America for so long are beginning to crumble. As they begin to deteriorate under the weight of a more democratic media system, opportunities to infiltrate the pervasive and corrupt lies and spread truth in love are becoming abundant. As America continues to grow fatigued and sluggish from decades of the mainstream media's preaching of godlessness, bright lights are beginning to shine in the most unlikely media places. And like any small light in a pitch black room, the effect will be unmistakable. - Brian Fisher, Coral Ridge MinistriesYonder comes a clue train. ...
A powerful global conversation has begun. Through the Internet, people are discovering and inventing new ways to share relevant knowledge with blinding speed. As a direct result, markets are getting smarterand getting smarter faster than most companies.
The first website I go to in the morning is our local paper but I still read the print edition for tidbits they fail to post...
the brand is different ~
i’ve been in contact with their editor through email before ~
i’ll have to see if this is the same identity ~ doesn’t seem to me that it is
I had not heard that it is in trouble.
The Wash Times and the WaPo are not a fair comparison; that’s apples to oranges.
I’m not sure where the stats for circulation are coming from, but I don’t doubt that readerships are decreasing across the board. I wasn’t trying to put forth the notion that circulations only decrease among liberal papers.
I buy the Wash Times every now and then, simply because I enjoy the newsprint medium. My kids pick up on the paper, too. If I had one of those 3 day of the week subs I am afraid that the paper would go uncreased for 2 of those 3 days.
I often read it online.
I agree with Gondring’s assessment that it is to our detriment that the entire medium is going down, but I won’t fault other FReepers for taking a parting shot at the dinosaurs.
Many here have friends and family in theatre; the press has proven to carry water for those who would do our service personnel harm ~ directly.
If there is a little bit of spit and vinegar directed at the NYT the WaPo, the SUN, et al, I have no problem with that. Seems natural and healthy to me.
