Ammo flying off store shelves

TAMPA - After President Barack Obama won the election, people flooded gun stores because of speculation that he may limit gun ownership or raise taxes on them. Even though neither has happened, the amount of people wanting to get their hands on a gun hasn't gone down. Scott Patrick is the General Manager of the Shoot Straight gun range in Tampa. He says the number of people coming into his store is still going up. "For whatever reason, whether it's the economy or crime, people don't feel safe," he said. Patrick is having serious trouble keeping all kinds of fire arms in stock, even holsters are often backordered. However, he says ammunition is what is really flying off store shelves. Ammo that sells for personal protection is as good as gold these days, and it's costing 30 to 40 percent more than it used to.

OK, point taken. Still most Americans would not be able to supply thier ‘food’ by hunting no matter how much they hoarded guns and ammo.

Your responses to this thread are actually quite funny.

I think I see a thread on DU where you might be more comfortable.

The second amendment has nothing to do with hunting.

Agree with ‘at the moment’. General price level will likely head down after April fools’ day.

I make almost weekly runs to the KC Cabelas. Last week, they completely enlarged their ammo/gun retail space.

I purchased some Black Hills .223 for .65/round. Darn high, but it is my favorite prairie dog cartridge. Everything else I have purchased for .42 - .45 per round for my AR’s.

“So the ‘have-nots’ are going to mount a Bolshevist revolution against the ‘haves’. I can see them already marching down the streets with their pitchforks and shovels.”

No. They will have their sawed-off shotguns and pistols bought from the back of a truck.

Are you simply trying to elicit repsonses, or are you really not paying attention to the news?

Went to the local Wallyworld here the other day, the guy said they've been out of 9mm JHP and 12ga. 00 for two weeks now.

Walmart is huge and therefore has huge supply chain problems. I wouldn't be surprised if some of their distribution centers are well stocked and feeding their stors while others are tapped out. I don't know where the DC for your for Las Vegas is but wouldn't be surprised to learn that it's half way to Provo.

Walmart also have a pretty minimal commitment to hunting and shooting sports. They are also under a lot of political scrutiny. I'd expect them to come back last.

You're lucky. Walmarts around here don't even stock weapons or ammo - for obvious political reasons.

And this is based on what????? A gun-friendly administration?

Have you even glanced at HR45?

Check on the Remington 870 right now: Note on this site the number that are on back order. Try to find a Winchester Defender. Modern carbines are also in short supply, and the price of everything is up.

Evidently you haven't seen what the mob acorn is up to in MN and several other states. The one is indeed fomenting the have and have not crowd against each other.

It's coming whether you want to acknowledge it or not.

The attitude with way too many of the, ahem, 0bami voters is that it's payback time, and that's a fact.

It is indeed a good time to be a seller of panic goods.

We're still in the middle of our post-election loss hysteria.

Give it 6 months and we should be back on an even keel.

“She is now hitting the target. She is such a little thing that I fear a large caliber gun might hurt her.”

I really like .308. But your wife does not need that if she is incapable of handling the recoil. She can do a lot of damage with a .243 or a .223.

If you honestly believe that, I’ll make you an offer on your ammo at 11/4/2008 prices.

Welfare rats when the Gov't and Treasury collapses and no more bene's are available.
The looting and rioting will only last so long in "depressed" areas before it spreads.

I am extremely comfortable with FR.

I am also a realist.

I don’t care if the price of gold, guns or ammo goes up or down.

I don’t believe supply is going to stop any time soon.

No a shot gun is best in the event it becomes up close. A rifle is for distance. One needs to be able to handle both distances. About two months ago a neighbor lady turned around in her home and there was a “little brother.” She screamed and ran outside and the “little brother,” ran. That is what I mean by up close. Already ACORN is seizing private property. Right now they are seizing foreclosed real property, tomorrow they will start to seize ours, both real and personal. Remember the clown allowed to occupy the White House said he is going to redistribute the wealth. He forgot what meaning his “little brothers” would put on those words. In my estimation there is a good chance that certain groups will just start entering one’s home looking for property.

I thought you were remarking that your daughter, not your wife was small in stature and were concerned with her firing a large caliber rifle. Nothing really important in the scheme of things.:)
