Ammo flying off store shelves

TAMPA - After President Barack Obama won the election, people flooded gun stores because of speculation that he may limit gun ownership or raise taxes on them. Even though neither has happened, the amount of people wanting to get their hands on a gun hasn't gone down. Scott Patrick is the General Manager of the Shoot Straight gun range in Tampa. He says the number of people coming into his store is still going up. "For whatever reason, whether it's the economy or crime, people don't feel safe," he said. Patrick is having serious trouble keeping all kinds of fire arms in stock, even holsters are often backordered. However, he says ammunition is what is really flying off store shelves. Ammo that sells for personal protection is as good as gold these days, and it's costing 30 to 40 percent more than it used to.

This is chicken little panic buying just like Y2K.

BS, Y2K did not evolve into a problem because people did panic. In that panic they prepared and the problem was reduced to essentially nothing. In short the problem was addressed just like this problem will be address by prepared people.

Smirk at your own peril.

Oh, that is an intelligent remark.

So you plan to engage in armed robbery to obtain food this fall? And you are willing to announce it on this public forum?

Better to be a seller of Y2K panic goods and services at this time. This wave of fear will subside and the general price level will, once again, head down.

You will be able to buy anything you want at much cheaper prices by 4Q. The dollar will be king by then.

n seven months there will be an ocean of these panic goods at substantial discounts as people try to raise money to buy food and utilities.

That's why don't complain about my husband stocking up. I figure it's a better investment than anything else right now.

Plus, as I always tell him, when the time comes that you are going to need that sort of ammo, they'll be no shortage. Our enemies will be sure to flood these United States with arms to keep the civil war bloody and long.

"a couple boxes of ammo per capable household member."

Except for 22LR. When they put that bullet serialization law into effect, 22LR will be much higher in price.

It doesn't sound like you're a shooter.

Another aspect of this is that this political climate is a good excuse to purchase more guns!

Some of us just like guns and enjoy shooting.

Yes, I have hunted for 48 years.

One shot, one kill.

No need for more than a couple of rifles and a shotgun.

Generally,no need for pistols in the hunting field.

I don’t think this discussion is about hunting.

“You will be able to buy anything you want at much cheaper prices by 4Q. The dollar will be king by then.”

How many of your other predictions have held true over the past year?

My guess is that this one will also go down in flames.

If we had an honest media a survey would be conducted and reported then my suspicians would be confirmed or refuted.

And that would give the courage to everyone to carry through with the revolt, hence the media ignores it.

In the end, it will be at there own peril.

I don't know if you caught Glenn Beck last night but his show was covering scenarios of such an event taking place here in the future. The fact it is even being discussed is quite telling, IMO

I was out at the range yesterday and went through 100 .45 and many 9mm.

If you think one or two boxes is all that is needed, you obviously are not a shooter.

“I don’t think this discussion is about hunting.”

It’s about being prepared.

Get a clue.

If you know how many guns you have,... you don’t have enough.

The alternative is high inflation and shortages.

Yes, this kneejerk reaction has been a boon for the ‘panic goods’ industry.

The Treasury will not allow runaway inflation as they must protect their bond portfolio in order to keep China buying.

You are jumping to 2011-12 and in so doing joining an emotionally driven ideology which will likely disappoint.

When the collapse comes refugees from the big cities will be looting wherever they go.

Better safe than sorry.

Speaking of little old ladies: I have a 74 year old friend in New Jersey who recently called me for advice on buying a gun. Her husband, a peacenik all his life, was very opposed.

She went ahead and bought the gun and ammo, and is taking shooting lessons at the local gun club. She said: “I’m a grown woman. I don’t need his (the husband’s) permission!

I love my wonderful feisty senior citizen friends!

I watched his show last night. It was most interesting. He was on the radio in our area and mentioned several times that when he went to Texas people would approach him and ask, in essence, ‘when do we start shooting?’
