Ammo flying off store shelves

TAMPA - After President Barack Obama won the election, people flooded gun stores because of speculation that he may limit gun ownership or raise taxes on them. Even though neither has happened, the amount of people wanting to get their hands on a gun hasn't gone down. Scott Patrick is the General Manager of the Shoot Straight gun range in Tampa. He says the number of people coming into his store is still going up. "For whatever reason, whether it's the economy or crime, people don't feel safe," he said. Patrick is having serious trouble keeping all kinds of fire arms in stock, even holsters are often backordered. However, he says ammunition is what is really flying off store shelves. Ammo that sells for personal protection is as good as gold these days, and it's costing 30 to 40 percent more than it used to.

My local Walmart has .40 S&W, 9mm and .45 in again.

Curiously though, they have no .22

I’m thinking by the end of September the crash will be in full effect and we will see liquidations of private inventories nationwide.

Except for the immediate horizon which could develope into a dollar minicrash, spike in oil, record in gold/silver and synthetic derivative default; we should see a resumption of demand/price destruction after April Fools Day.

In other words, no matter what happens over the next few weeks, there is still a long way between 7,500 and zero.

My post was not about avid shooters, it was about PRACTICING, which every shooter needs to do to be competent.

Fine, wastedyears, I accept your statistics as they further reinforce my belief we, as a people, are adequately armed to deal will marauding gangs, foreign mercenaries, etc.

He didn’t insult anyone, he didnt start call names, he didnt want to limit anyone buying as much as they wanted. A bunch of folks then ganged up on him for expressing his opinion. While I dont agree with him, he shouldnt be attacked for not following conventional wisdom. Sorry you got your panties in a wad. You likely took the ahole comment personally because it fits. That’s something you and I can agree on.

No, Red, three boxes would not be hoarding.

The headline of your post does, at least, give the impression there are some among us who might be going for four boxes.

As you and I know, many Americans are buying ammo in volume and storing it away for the coming....whatever.

It is a free country and you can put your dollars where you want. I am not trying to take anyone’s freedom away.

You are free to buy a million rounds and five hundred AR’s if you like as far as I am concerned. I like citizen militias!

Just be careful to avoid getting caught up in some emotional frenzy where people panic into things.

Go to www.ar15.com, and click on ar-15 in the topic list. Scroll down to the “Ammunition” forum, then select the “Ammo Whores” or “what have you done this week ammo-wise” threads.

People are buying thousands of rounds... I have put away svereal thousand since the election.

This is chicken little panic buying just like Y2K. Who do these buyer’s think they are going to be shooting? You need, at most, one gun and a couple boxes of ammo per capable household member. In seven months there will be an ocean of these panic goods at substantial discounts as people try to raise money to buy food and utilities.

You are right. In seven months there will be an ocean of panic goods....to buy food and utilities."

Here in the South, ammo relates directly to food. It also relates directly to defiance, and freedom. A hundred forty years ago, y'all taught us that a "couple of boxes of ammo" was not sufficient to ensure our freedom. We will not make that mistake again.

I'll bet you 1000 rounds of 5.56 that you're wrong. As the economy deteriorates and the Afghanistan surge procurement hits the 5.56 and 9mm supply, prices will remain high. We may see a slight drop, but we won't drop back to pre-8/2008 prices untill the socialist scourge is halted.

Whatever is a good word, as we do not know what the future holds, but a SHTF scenario gets more likely day by day.
