Ammo flying off store shelves

TAMPA - After President Barack Obama won the election, people flooded gun stores because of speculation that he may limit gun ownership or raise taxes on them. Even though neither has happened, the amount of people wanting to get their hands on a gun hasn't gone down. Scott Patrick is the General Manager of the Shoot Straight gun range in Tampa. He says the number of people coming into his store is still going up. "For whatever reason, whether it's the economy or crime, people don't feel safe," he said. Patrick is having serious trouble keeping all kinds of fire arms in stock, even holsters are often backordered. However, he says ammunition is what is really flying off store shelves. Ammo that sells for personal protection is as good as gold these days, and it's costing 30 to 40 percent more than it used to.

“I don’t believe supply is going to stop any time soon.”

The supply may not go down, but what will happen to the prices if a 500% ammo tax is imposed?

If you believe past is prologue (as you seem to from your posts), this is highly likely as Obama voted for this in IL.

They don’t stand a chance but if they try invading some suburb or even worse (for them) a rural area, it will be over before it gets started.

A smaller caliber may be the answer.

Most ‘news’ is BS designed to swing the emotions of the masses.

America is a big 14 trillion dollar per year economy with plenty of staying power.

Give this whole mess another year or two and things will get crazy.

Agree with ‘at the moment’. General price level will likely head down after April fools’ day.

I hope you're right. Problem is, manufacturers and retailers have grown used to the fat margins they are getting now and they see their businesses as being under threat in the long term. They figure they need to make their profits now. This will tend to keep prices high and discourage competitors from entering the business at the low end.

I'd love to sit down over a few drinks with someone who imports ammo for Wolf or Bear or some other low end foreign supplier; just to see what they are thinking.

for obvious political reasons.

I know, I went to check out their prices on a 12 ga. Told the guy I wanted one for home defense. He smugly replied that Walmart does not sell defense weapons, only for hunting.

I didn't even bother with a reply, what's the use.

I am not a hoarder so I would not be interested is selling my regular supply.

Meat for a family can be supplied for years with one rifle and one box of ammo by the way.

Yes, I know we are not ‘really’ talking about hunting here so you don’t need to post that one again.

OK, but BO does not have much power yet.

Give him a year or two before the gloves come off, if ever.

Obviously, there are plenty of patriots ready to cut the head off of any snake intent on disarming our free populace.

Not being a gun fanatic, but having been in the market off and on since I was sixteen, I've never seen gun prices drop significantly. The Colt AR-15 was actually a relatively inexpensive weapon before the assault weapons ban. A friend of mine had accumulated four of them at around $300 each. After the ban, he was getting offers of $1000, but never sold. They've never come down in price to the former levels.

Most guys who buy firearms tend to keep them. It's not like the Y2K stuff, where people bought supplies and then sold them off. After this rush, I don't think you'll see guys dumping their weapons.

It's possible for there to be a gun dump, but I'd be surprised.

Right.....we are talking about {gasp!} defending one’s life and loved ones! What a horrible thing!

You are probably right about this.

Still, they would be no match for our right thinking militia at the present state of readiness.

No a shot gun is best in the event it becomes up close

Couldn't agree more, I thought you were a bit concerned with recoil though.

I bought a 12ga. Stoeger P350 last November, thing kicks like a mule.

It's a nice gun, especially for the money, same with their 9mm

Walked into a discount food store lately say Aldis or Sav a lot ? the tale is in the older generation look at their faces they are scared and worried and are buying foods en~mass the foods they are buying are canned goods and dry non perrishes .

they are stocking up because they know instincts are guiding them not hunger or want and im not talking about people in there 50’s i’m talking bout people in their 70’s and 80’s

Welfare folks usually buy around the first week of the month so i know it wasn’t those folks this was in the middle of the month and this store was packed it was a geritol and ben gay convention i talked to one of the keepers and she said it had been like that for a couple of months canned and dry goods were flying off shelves and it kept them at the store later that usual because of restocking
.
People ARE scared but when the older generation is scared its time to listen !

There you go again.

As a life member of the NRA for many years and a hunter for 48 years, no one more than I believes in the individual’s right to use the ordinary means of lethal force to protect life, liberty and property.

Where did you come up with the idea I opposed such?

It is this type of remark that energizes our detractors as we appear to be disagreeing amongst ourselves on core issues.

Let not this appear to be!
