WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President Barack Obama will allow tax breaks given to wealthier Americans under his predecessor, George W. Bush, to expire as scheduled rather than eliminate them sooner, an administration official said on Saturday.

Obama, who promised during his White House campaign to roll back tax cuts on people earning more than $250,000, also plans to boost tax collections from about 16 percent of the economy this year to 19 percent in 2013, the official said, confirming a Washington Post report on Obama's budget proposals for the 2010 fiscal year.

Thanks for reminding the market to drop again Monday Ogabe.

The Marxists WANT the 401K's to tank completely. Then the sheeple will give them permission to roll it all into Social Insecurity. Just another plank in the takeover plan -- education, media, health care, banking, retirement, etc.

They sure did! He put THOUSANDS back into our pockets over the past 8 years.

Absolutely. I purchased a 2nd house with my big tax return in 2005. My middle son is living there right now. My primary residence has no mortgage. When the rates go back up, I'm going to have to insist on charging my son rent in the house. I can't absorb a $1,000 hit each month and allow him to live in the house rent free.

Well said. It’d make a great (and big) bumper sticker.

Well, I deserve to be punished. My taxes went down under Bush, and I’m not rich. Not even close. So, they must have made a mistake by lowering my taxes because as we all know, Bush only cut the taxes of his rich cronies. It’s my patriotic duty to give it all back, and then some.

I make less than $150,000 per year, and if the Bush tax cuts expire I will be paying over $3000 more per year in Fed income taxes. He’s lying when he says it will only affect people making more than $250,000.

Who is considered a wealthy American? O promised to lower taxes on those making less than 250K but bushes tax cuts helped persons making much less!

As far as I can remember, Bush's cuts helped every single person paying taxes.

President Barack Obama will allow tax breaks given to wealthier Americans under his predecessor

Since when does being married and filing jointly make you inherently wealthier, so as to earn over $250,000? Bush's tax cuts where more than for higher wager earners.

You asked — “Can we impeach him yet?”

You can try to see if you can get it going. But, I suspect it will be just like those protesters who had been wanting to impeach Bush for years, too. It won’t go anywhere, and all you’ll make yourself look like is a fringe-group — just like those “Impeach Bush” characters looked like.

I would concentrate on issues that are big (pick primary issues and then secondary and then on down the list) to work on opposing and trying to get our influence in on it, when bills go through Congress.

To do a whole bunch of “protesting” that is not going to get anywhere (as opposed to certain high-profile and critical items) is to make yourself a “fringer” and not get hardly anything done (except complaining...).

You’re a lot nicer than me. The MINUTE my son moved out, his old room became my Sewing Room, and he’s not allowed back in, LOL!

He can have the couch in an emergency, and of course he’s invited to dinner whenever he wants, but to pay for a house for him? *THUD*

18 and OUT, Baby. ;)

(I realize you’re doing it as an investment...)

Do the math with me. Raising the 10% bracket to 15% represents what percentage of increase? Hint: The correct answer is NOT 5%.

But Obama voters DO think it's 5%!

Well, it’s none of my business but you did volunteer the information so may I ask, is there some reason why you SHOULD allow your son to live rent-free?

I usually find a news item to genuinely piss me off within my first 20 minutes of FR every day. That's on top of this feeling I've had since the election. I don't know what to call it...tension, foreboding, spider-sense...that signal that animals get before an earthquake that something reeeeally bad's on its way.
