WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President Barack Obama will allow tax breaks given to wealthier Americans under his predecessor, George W. Bush, to expire as scheduled rather than eliminate them sooner, an administration official said on Saturday.
Obama, who promised during his White House campaign to roll back tax cuts on people earning more than $250,000, also plans to boost tax collections from about 16 percent of the economy this year to 19 percent in 2013, the official said, confirming a Washington Post report on Obama's budget proposals for the 2010 fiscal year.

Big talk on the media about the $13 bump "working people" will see in their pay checks as early as next week.... Yet what about self-employed? And then, of course, most will actually see smaller checks (or bigger tax bills) once the cuts are phased out. But notice that the MSM isn't making a big deal about the cuts ending. Just the little $13 penance for working payroll stiff...
Everything about this administration is a FRAUD!
You said — “So do you think it is OK to raise taxes if there is no Great Depression?”
I think taxes and spending should be in line with one another. In other words, the taxes should match the spending. If the spending is too high, then reduce it. We’ve got to pay for what we spend. That’s the bottom line... and that’s where the “issue” is really at.
—
And then — “You are certainly not a conservative Star Traveler.”
So you say, but that’s not what I say. I have on my home page a “conservative/liberal” score that shows where I stand in that regard. It’s a real simple thing, but it illustrates the point, at any rate.
In regards to taxes and spending, I would consider it very conservative to make sure that the spending matches the taxes. The two should not be “out-of-sync” with one another. There are instances when that may have to happen. I think a time of war is one such instance. And I think another time that those two will be mismatched is in a time of a recession or even a Great Depression. I think during those times you’re going to see it being mismatched. But, one can catch back up again and get everything “in line” and “paying for what you get” — as things get better. That’s what I call “conservative” — paying for what the government does, and not overspending.
—
And then lastly — “Your answers are convoluted and you show a lot of reluctance and unclarity when asked to support conservative principles such a tax cuts. Also it is not smart for Obama to let the Bush tax cut expires because no matter how dumb are some people they are going to notice that they are losing thousands of dollar a year from their pay checks starting on January 2011.”
I think it’s a smart political move, in terms of avoiding spending “political capital” which can be expended on unnecessary things. It’s happened before in other administrations. I think you have to conserve your political capital and I think that was what was done here, in that move. And, as I said, it’s not the right thing to do for a conservative, but I was posing this as one preserving their political capital from the standpoint of *their position* not the conservative position.
Great, more tax increases....upon the ones hes already planning....and the ones our lib/dem governor is planning. The tax increase you speak of is for the wealthy only. He annonced a tax cut for the middle and lower class. Let's not exaggerate.
You are still not giving conservative answers. You are no conservative and that is clear for me. Anyway you can have the last word.
You said — “Actually a change of just 300,000 votes (out of 125 million+) in a few battleground states would have resulted in an Obama loss.”
Well, all I gotta say about that is that it’s a shame that the Republican ticket couldn’t have figured that out as easily as you did...
—
I’m in a state where every last single county in the state was for the Republican ticket and the two major metropolitan areas of the state were totally for the Republican ticket.
Are their stats showing that in average Americans put “thousands more” in their pockets during those 8 years?
That's a load of nonsense. It will make a HUGE difference.
When the producers feel the Gov't is moving against them, the whole country moves in a negative direction. When the producers feel the Gov't moving for them, the country prospers.
You should know that.
I gave the same type of answers on my simple liberal/conservative test, which you could take for yourself, too and see how it comes out...
It doesn’t matter to me whether someone else thinks I’m one way or another, because I’m giving those answers out of what I consider to be a conservative position. Perhaps you’re the one who is not a conservative — which many times is the case — when an accusation like that is made... LOL...
But, since I don’t really know one way or another, I don’t make such an accusation and I simply state what is a reasonable position for conservative positions and issues...
I don't need to be reminded time after time that ther are consequences I/we have to suffer because of the blithering f'n idiots/powers that put him in office.
I think the Great Depression that is deepening now and the world-wide financial meltdown is quite a bit bigger than anything this could do one way or another. It’s a matter of “size” and “effect” and that’s the way I see it...
Now, mind you, it may make a difference for those particular individuals, but I wasn’t talking about that. I was talking about making a difference in the Great Depression that is deepening and making a difference in the world-wide meltdown in the financial system. I think that out of this meltdown is going to come something very different than what we are used to from before.
The whole country is not going to move in a negative direction because of this one issue, no matter how much it is repellant to conservatives. No, it’s the world-wide meltdown of the financial system that is moving the country negative. Again, it’s a matter of perspective and the relative impact of one thing to another thing. The Great Depression overwhelms everything else by a huge factor...
I do not like this man. He has no clue what he is doing. Can we impeach him yet?

Thanks Star Traveler. I know what you’re saying, but I am pee’d off. Something about this is not right. My intuition tells me something is wrong. We need to become very vocal in everything we see or we will regret it. Now is the time revolt and unite. We have the numbers, just let your sense of right and wrong be your guide.
By 2010 there will be a trend of layoffs among the black population in retribution for the imposed vendetta of hate perpetrated by Obama
My hubby is a former Marine.
You are right about your son!
Same boat here with a family income no where near 6 figures. I guess I too was one of President Bush's rich cronies.
Now I can soon be one of 0bama's poor slaves.
F the dumbass, 3 years and 11 more months of the jerk-in-chief.
Reuters believes it. This thread is about the Reuters article. If we are not to believe it it might as well not have been linked here.
