The White House is lashing out publicly and personally at a CNBC reporter whose attack on President Barack Obamas anti-foreclosure plan caught fire on the Internet on Thursday.
White House press secretary Robert Gibbs jumped at the chance to go after the CNBC journalist, Rick Santelli, when a question about his bracing critique was asked at Fridays news briefing.
Ive watched Mr. Santelli on cable the past 24 hours or so. Im not entirely sure where Mr. Santelli lives or in what house he lives but the American people are struggling every day to meet their mortgages, stay in their jobs, pay their bills, send their kids to school, Gibbs said. I think we left a few months ago the adage that if it was good for a derivatives trader that it was good for Main Street. I think the verdict is in on that, the press secretary said, poking directly at the cable journalist, who reports from the trading floor at the Chicago Board of Trade.
Gibbs insisted Santelli was misinformed when he said Obamas program would amount to a transfer of money from prudent taxpayers to those who had taken reckless risks.

Dissent is all new to Comrade Hussein 0bama. Up til now, everyone in media has fallen all over themselves to kiss his a$$.
The sensible thing to do would have been to ignore it or simply note that Santelli has a right to his own views. But Democrats cannot do that anymore - ever. Have you noticed? They are permanently in conflict mode; always campaigning and attacking. No critique of them is allowed to go unremarked, and the reason is because they don’t believe in “bipartisanship”, or “reaching across the aisle” (paging John McCain). They believe in winning - and at any cost.
And he's only been in charge for a month!!!
He’s not “entirely” sure where he lives. Are they looking into this?
Poppin Popcorn right now!
I am sure we will hear of an IRS audit soon enough. That was a Clinton favorite, right?
Yes, and now we know exactly where the nerve is located. Pure amateur hour at the White House, from top to bottom.
Bombs away!
Well someone is certainly misinformed Mr. Gibbs. That's for sure.
I don't see how you can describe what is taking place any other way, but hey, you Washington insiders are always out of touch with the reality the rest of the nation has to live with.
We have middle income people paying out tens of thousands of dollars in federal, state, and local taxes, not to mention other "FEES".
Why shouldn't hard working people be bitter about this? If they were allowed to keep more of their money, they would be better prepared for these economic downturns. But no, you assholes in Washington have the situation gamed to the point they are generally only a few paychecks from disaster. And now you folks have provided one, planed from the get go.
What really bothers you folks, is that Santelli nailed you for what you are up to, and you can't stand that he is right, and people know he is.
That's the beauty of the First Amendment you are intent on destroying. So F you and the pony you rode in on Gibbs.
There are many people right here on FreeRepublic that downplay the use of social networking sites like Facebook, but this is precisely why they’re so valuable.
When you post a video such as this, it goes on the homepage of everyone on your Friend List. How many people are watching that video now that NEVER would have looked for it on their own?
Like the printing press of old, we have to use every tool in our arsenal to get the message out and bypass the Old Media.
“Im not entirely sure where Mr. Santelli lives ...
Im sure we will all know soon.”
Translation......”we are entirely sure where Mr. Santelli lives.....”
I was speaking of the WH singling out private citizens for public attacks.
I'm not entirely sure where Mr. Gibbs lives or in what house he lives but the American TAXPAYERS are struggling every day to understand how in the Sam Hill taking MORE of their money, and their children's and grand-children's money, and giving it to speculators and deadbeats is going to help the economy. From where I sit, this looks like punishing good behavior, and subsidizing bad behavior.
My 401k is down 35%+ - the one I have diligently scrimped and saved to fund over my 28-year career. I've never missed a mortgage payment, never carried credit card debt, never been late on a bill. I've foregone nice dinners, expensive vacations, and a bigger house. I've put 1 child through college on my own dime, because the goverment doesn't think I should get any of my own tax money back in the form of a tuition credit. I have 2 more children in college, on my own dime for the same reason.
Yet I'm being told that I am not doing enough. That I'm either greedy or un-patriotic for not wanting to bail out people that made bad investment decisions. WHERE IS MY BAIL-OUT?
I'll see Mr. Santelli, and hopefully millions of others like myself at the Chicago Tea-Party in July!!
nump for later
Any truth to the rumor that Robert Gibbs is being sent to the Norm Crosby School Of Public Oratory for a remedial class on speaking the english language in public?
We saw what will be done to an average Joe. The press showed us.
You sure don’t like criticism do ya’, Zero? Loser!
I guess insted of pitchforks and torches (who has those any more?) we will have to march with our AR-15’s and 45’s.
Scott, I think you’ve made quite a valuable point about the social networks that are so popular these days. They can be put to good use.
Baghdad Bob had a much better command of the English language, would not stammer, and would not be flummoxed and have to "I'll check, and get back to you" on half the things brought to his attention.
