STUDENTS QUESTION OBAMA'S PLAN
Drudge Report ^ | Feb 19, 2009 | Drudge

Posted on 02/19/2009 7:21:21 AM PST by Islander7

A Dobson High School Advanced Placement government class with strong opinions about Barack Obama watched the president's speech Wednesday on a small, grainy TV in the corner of their classroom.

Some of the students attentively watched the speech, giving questioning looks and comments, shaking their heads and laughing at some of Obama's words. Other students listened, occasion ally glancing up to watch, while texting on their cell phones, reading a book or finishing school work.

The gymnasium's events were shown simultaneously in rooms throughout the Mesa school, and teachers were given discretion on whether to show the speech, the students said. The students in the class were hopeful things will work out but questioned whether Obama's plan would actually work to dig the country out of its economic woes. They also expected a longer speech.

Senior Syna Daudfar took some notes during the speech and was among the most vocally opposed to Obama's words.

At one point, when he talked about the costs of his stimulus plan, senior Maaike Albach and Daudfar looked at each other and said, "uh-oh."

"Overall I think it's a good idea, but he's not addressing the issues of the economic crisis," said Daudfar, a John McCain supporter who added he leans more toward being a moderate conservative. "The spending bill he just passed is just progressing the Democratic agenda rather than addressing the economic issues in the country."

Daudfar thinks Obama's plan is backward and deals with the "less important stuff" first. "Bailing out businesses" and "providing better regulatory systems for giving out money to businesses" should have been first, he said.

Yeah, that workin' and lurkin' gets me too on occasion.

It doesn't help you graduate early (at least not at my or my daughter's colleges) but it DOES get your core requirements in non-majors out of the way, and it does let you get up into the 2 and 300 level courses sooner. Which of course lets you take more interesting courses your senior year, once you've gotten the graduation requirements out of the way (I took Old Norse. It was really cool.)

Exactly why I chose taking so many AP courses in high school. By the time I got to college I wanted to focus as much as possible on my major. I still obviously had to take a bunch of BS classes my first 2 semesters. And while lots of kids wanted to slack off their senior of HS, I wanted to prep myself for college. I know me and if I let my brain take time off, it will go into a long hibernation! lol

I never finished college and I regret it, but I wasn’t left with too much choice my sophomore year. I consider going back now that my life is established and before I have kids, but I’m so happy to not have student loans right now!

Don’t know. He was still working it out, but it seemed he came to the conclusion our action was justified in that case.

He was a good guy, just didn’t believe in war.

I don’t want to flatter Hitler even if its unintended.

I don't think Hitler will notice. Rumor has it he's deceased...

Teddy! You just described the Ivy League!

I could tear that poster down without anybody knowing.

Helps when you went to high school for 5 years. In the Socialist’s paradise of NYC.

I took AP US History in 1976; a great class, but didn’t do anything with it.

My son will take it next year. He left me behind in math & science about two years ago. But I will be paying attention to his US history class.

That pose of Obama’s in that photo is STRANGE. I’d wondered if it was photoshopped because it appears to be such a COMPLETELY SMUG, ARROGANT, NARCISSISTIC pose that it almost looks unreal. The MSM has shored up a person who, if these poses are real, looks like a tinpot dictator.

If “Bush” had struck such an arrogant pose, they would have had a cow.

That poster (if it’s not going away) needs to be fixed. Just put a “T” on the end! :)

“said Daudfar, a John McCain supporter who added he leans more toward being a moderate conservative.”

No such thing as a “moderate” conservative. Considering the kid supported McCain, I can see why he would create such a label. Conservatives do not sit on the fence...plain and simple.
