Heart-ache: Palin backs out of CPAC
Hotair ^ | 2-10-09 | staff

Rush will still be there, but it’s not really “grassroots Woodstock” anymore without her. Now, because of the letdown, it’s more like grassroots Altamont: Plenty of good acts and one great one to close the show, but an angry, angry crowd nonetheless. The opening-day headliner for the annual CPAC conservative convention February 26-28, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, has pulled out, citing state business in Juneau. “We’re obviously disappointed,” said a CPAC official. A spokesman for the three-day confab, organized by the American Conservative Union Foundation and others, said that Palin, the popular former vice presidential nominee, had indicated she would be able to attend but cited “duties of governing” in bowing out. Instead, she will send in a taped message. The Democrats up there have been grumbling about her being out of state so much. Maybe she figured she could either get away for the Alfalfa Dinner or CPAC but not both and had to make a hard choice. Exit question: Huckabee to replace her? The message, at least, will be similar. And he’s anti-stimulus!

Maybe for an encore your hero Ann Coulter can tell us more of a what a great guy Mitt Flip-Flop Romney is and repeat all the baseless smears attack she made against John Roberts' nominate to the Supreme Court.

Some conservative icon.

Coulter Kool-aid drinkers on the right as as bad as Moore-On follows on the left.

Sarah has a lot on her plate to defeat this attempt to wear her out and topple her. It is time from Alaskans and all good men and women to rally to her support. It is plainly obvious from the treads in the local Alaskan press that the effort is concerted and orchestrated.

Emerson, you are 100% correct! There is a well-funded, well-organized effort underway to either defeat Governor Palin outright in the 2010 governor's race, or else force her out through sheer exhaustion, via 1,000 political cuts. It's classic Axelrod tactics, focused on knocking Obama's political opponents out well before any elections.

Folks, I'm sure that Governor Palin does not want to disappoint her supporters by missing this event. However, she is a sitting governor, in the middle of a tempestuous legislative session, with the wolves circling her, her staff, and her family, looking for any opening to attack. Alaska must necessarily come first right now for her, in view of her re-election campaign in 2010. She's already taken a lot of heat for attending the Alfalfa event, and should she attend CPAC and that volcano suddenly blows while she is out of state, then it would be a political disaster for her. Folks need to understand that she has to look after Alaska first right to keep her power base, and if she spends too much time out of state for National purposes, her constituency could turn on her. It's a fact of state-level political life.

Our FRiend Josh Painter did some excellent analysis, published on Red State, about what is going on in Alaska and how the Rats and the corrupt Murkowski Republicans have more or less entered into an unholy alliance to bring down Governor Palin. Everyone should read this and understand the forces at work in Alaska that she has to keep a constant eye on.

Tag-teaming Sarah Palin

The bottom line: CUT HER SOME SLACK---SHE'S EARNED IT!

I thought the AK State Senate completed its Troopergate investigation in October 2008. The report released then said Palin did nothing wrong although the media tried to spin it as something sinister.

I feel that just posting here is not doing anything and only giving the far left loons something to laugh about.

I don’t know what and can’t say exactly how I feel on here but I am pissed that this country is being taken away from us and my kids will never have the real America but a shell of it former self all thanks to the obama cult and George soros who is pulling the strings with his money

Exactly...but some just couldn't seem to believe it...
The schedule at the link says only that they’ve been invited, not that they’ve confirmed, but the fact that each has been given a specific time slot — Palin speaks in the showcase 4:30 slot on Thursday, the first day — presumably means they’re booked.

Let's see ... you don't like Fred and you sure don't like Ann ... but you love Huck?! (and get mad when others point out what a hypocrite, fraud and con man that he is)

BillyBoy, you are no conservative.

When you get a few more years out from your indoctrination by liberal professors you may "get" Coulter.

Right now you are displaying the classic symptoms of Coulter Emasculation Syndrome

Grow up, boy Billy.

So what was or is "John Roberts' nominate to the Supreme Court?"

Is that the new math?

Ann Coulter too; for what I’m reading! What? Am I missing something? Did Ann Coulter and Rush Limbaugh turn into liberals or something? LOL Not hardly! You’re right, there are other worthwhile conservatives to see also!

I agree 100% with you....Gov. Palin needs to refine her message and stay on task.....she needs to serve her state....

I gave lots of money to the McPalin ticket....I supported her wildly....however, that does not mean I will support her next time....we will see what happens....

but I do know is that for her to be a real force, she must maintain her base in Alaska....she must make herself a little scarce at this time.....

her best shot at the Presidency is to be a very competant governor ....not to be on the public airways constantly.....she does not need that...

"Could she make a satellite appearance?"

She should've been at CPAC, but instead she went to the chuckle with the Prez in DC a couple of weeks ago.

Bring on Bobby Jindal. If Sarah is lucky she'll be VP sometime. Maybe Cabinet position. Someday.

Worshipping celebrity is not a conservative, or healthy for anyone, trait. Hooray for Governor Palin!

To all those con"pure"tives who think they can do Sarah Palin's job and run her life better than she can. Do the conservative movement a big favor by KEEPING YOUR DAMN OPINIONS TO YOURSELVES! After seeing all the BS Sarah Palin is having to deal with from the left and unfortunately from her own party, she doesn't need a bunch of whining and blathering "holier than thou" FReepers pig piling on her just because she doesn't attend one CPAC or makes a mistake or two. She is HUMAN after all. There will be future CPACs and I believe she will attend many of them. Just remember that as long as she's the Governor of Alaska her loyalty and service is to the Alaskan people, not to a bunch of preening self righteous pricks at CPAC who think they're entitled to have their rear ends kissed by her. I bet most of the FReepers and conservatives attending CPAC would be crying little girls if they had to spend week in Sarah Palin's shoes. It's probably much easier to be a typical FReeper than it is to be Sarah Palin.

If all you Palin critics want to do something useful, then why don't you PRAY for her instead of giving her your worthless two cent negative comments.

The poor way Republicans have mistreated Mike Huckabee, an articulate and gifted Republican politician who came in 2nd in the primary with little money and a concerted effort to get rid of him by the Talk Radio Elites, is even worse.

Huck is a great speaker and his CPAC speech last year was terrific.

So, let me get this straight...
You slandered my daughter, you libeled me,
you threw my political future under the campaign bus,
you allowed the media to convince
The Sheep that I'm nothing but white trash,
you let them torch my church Odinga-style,
and you expect me to do WHAT for you in 2012??

Keep all your hate in the lower 48, because
I'm not leaving Alaska, and all of you
can kiss my perfectly-formed ass!
