Mystery solved, suspect in custody! We finally know who pulled off a canine caper that generated news stories, and laughter, around the globe. The "shoplifting dog" has finally come forward and faced up to the crime.
Returning to the scene of the crime in a Hummer, Akira took it easy this time, riding instead of walking. The 11-year-old Siberian Husky seemed eager for a return visit to the Smith's grocery store.
Just before Christmas, surveillance video captured a mysterious dog making a clean getaway with a stolen rawhide bone. The Stirling family suspected Akira was the bad guy and brought her back to face the music.
"There's no question. That looks exactly like the dog," store manager Roger Adamson said. That same verdict was unanimous from store employees.

That is adorable. He is one smart doggie.
Some time ago my Irish Setter showed up at the back door with a shopping bag full of tomatoes. Who knows where he got them but they sure were good.
We used to have a dog named Fannie Mae Farkleberry that stole stuff from neighbors and brought it into our garage and dropped it at the back door. She stole dirty laundry from other neighbors’ garages, windshield wipers and lots of good stuff. Some neighbor finally loaded her up and hauled her off one day. It was sad, but she was a misunderstood thief. Her childhood made her go bad I suppose.
You don’t know Huskies.
That is funny!!!!
Have to teach my dogs to do that.

Could be.. he is a clever hound even if larcenous.
It always used to amaze me that a dog that could hear the refrigerator door open NEXT DOOR..could lose their hearing so fast. While chasing down the escapee, they would become completely impervious to the best “Come here, Sweetie” to a bellowed “Get over here now!”
They just look over their shoulders and smile (huskies do smile)...or maybe that was a smirk?
The husky/wolf mix that owned me was also a thief. A real j.d.
Good story.
“You dont know Huskies.”
No I don’t, but I am sure getting a lesson about them. : )
Don't blame him.
Friend of mine had a big yellow Lab named Goose. He was at a hunt test with Goose, and Goose missed the mark and started hunting around for the bird, got over near the bird boys. My friend hollered "DON'T LET HIM GET A DUCK!" but Goose nipped in behind the blind, grabbed a duck off the dryer, and ran back to the line. Friend yelled, "I told you not to let him get a duck!" Bird boy stuck his head out from behind the blind and yelled back, "He GROWLED at me!"
The family thinks it is cute that Akira is “a roamer” but this is a serious problem. She could easily be hit by a car or stolen if they allow this bolting behavior to continue. They need to train her or give her to a family who can handle the responsibilities of being a pet guardian.
