Specter, Snowe, Collins Anger GOP Base

Sunday, February 8, 2009 7:39 PM

By: Tim Collie

Collins said she broke ranks with her party because of the progress congressional negotiators had made on the bill.

"Well, I know that some of my Republican colleagues are unhappy with the position that I've taken," Collins told reporters Saturday. "I hope they will look at the fact that we were able to cut $110 billion of unnecessary spending from this bill. I think that's a good accomplishment. I also think that it's important that we do pass a stimulus bill to help turn the economy around."

"Senators Snowe and Collins have worked with President Obama and other senators to reach agreement on a plan that has support from a broad range of groups, including the US Chamber of Commerce and organized labor," says the version of the ad in Maine.

"Call Senators Snowe and Collins today at 202-224-3121. Thank them for their leadership and tell them to keep fighting for a plan to get our economy moving again."

But Collins, at least, has left herself some wiggle room on the final bill that emerges after House-Senate negotiations.

"Well, I know that some of my Republican colleagues are unhappy with the position that I've taken," Collins told FOX News. "I hope they will look at the fact that we were able to cut $110 billion of unnecessary spending from this bill. I think that's a good accomplishment.”

Yet she conceded that if a bill comes back from the conference committee with the House "once again bloated with wasteful spending and it's too expensive, then I'll vote against it."

OUCH! Such strong words from the Minority Leader ...

At the same time, McConnell avoided any direct criticism of Specter — who faces reelection in 2010 — Collins or Snowe, simply saying that the three Republicans did not improve the bill enough to attract more GOP support.

"WONDERFUL", you RINO twit.

Scumbag Senators, mainly dems, but with help from RINOs, ADDED about 100 BILLION to the house bill, and THEN, made it LOOK like they did a great thing by trimming about the SAME amount.

Now aren't YOU the best thing since sliced bread, Mz. Collins?

Hopefully, and in the not too distant future, we can PURGE liberal, weak-minded RINOs like this from our party.

Dumb-ass.

Its going to be interesting to see what Collins and Snow were promised for this treachery.

I heard on the radio this morning that all three were promised money from Porkulus for their districts. I can't remember the specific 'projects' designated, but I'm sure that information is going to be repeated over the next day or so.

Mr. Specter said he would have supported the package even if Democrats had not added $6.5 billion in additional money for the National Institutes of Health to the final version of the bill.

Mr. Specter had sought the money for years, and had mentioned that he wanted the money in the bill when he met with President Barack Obama last week.

“That’s only one small part ... That’s not determinative in my mind,” he said.

I would like to know, though, why they can’t be “politely” asked to leave the party.

The U.S. Senate’s stimulus package includes $300 million for environmentally friendly modes of transportation, including “neighborhood electric vehicles” — which are, in fact, golf carts.

The 778-page Senate bill includes this allocation: “For capital expenditures and necessary expenses of acquiring motor vehicles with higher fuel economy, including: hybrid vehicles; neighborhood electric vehicles; electric vehicles; and commercially-available, plug-in hybrid vehicles, $300,000,000, to remain available until September 30, 2011.”

Snow apparently bought this.....

No, she said it right the first time!

Collins’ “circle of concern” doesn’t extend past the DC beltway. As far as she is concerned, we “little people” don’t exist, you know.

Three bigger A-holes would be hard to find among Republicans. But then, they really aren’t Republicans, are they.

Yep. And they will produce, in the end, ‘only losses’ as my tagline predicts.

Lesser of two evils, relentlessly drummed into our heads, including right here at FR.

Master of understatement...call any friends or relatives in Maine and PA...

Won't help!

What will, is that we demand that the RNC state publicly on all major news channels that Spector, Collins and Snowe will receive no funding from that organization...without exception, in perpetuity, and that all earmarks submitted by these members be treated as Democrat amendments and be denied in all circumstance! That will have more impact on the votors of PA amd ME than any other.
And, unless we hear that publicly, the RNC can expect NO funding to be forthcoming from the general membership.

In addition, unless we hear that GOPAC has identified three qualified Republicans to challenge these losers, they can expect no funding either.

If you want to write someone...write Michael Steele and demand action.
