GOP Sounds Alarm Over Obama Decision to Move Census to White House

Utah's congressional delegation is calling President Obama's decision to move the U.S. census into the White House a purely partisan move and potentially dangerous to congressional redistricting around the country.

Rep. Jason Chaffetz, R-Utah, told FOX News on Tuesday that he finds it hard to believe the Obama administration felt the need to place re-evaluation of the inner workings of the census so high on his to-do list, just three weeks into his presidency.

"This is nothing more than a political land grab," Chaffetz said.

Rep. Rob Bishop, R-Utah, told the Salt Lake Tribune that the move "shouldn't happen." He and Chaffetz are trying to rally Republicans "before its too late."

There is also billions in the Porkulus bill to fund the upcoming (already funded) census. Wow. This is potentially more damaging than funding abortions around the world, cutting the military while we are at war, jacking up taxes on tobaco products to save children.

I never thought the census as inherently important for politics until that episode on West Wing when the Bartlett administration made a big push the change the census so it used estimates instead of actual counting - that way Democratic districts with lots of minorities would get counted extra for funding and representation in congress.

Some times I wonder if Obama doesn’t have some close advisers who think of West Wing as a training manual.

How could I forget Acorn? That’s pretty bad. But this may be worse. This is how they will add dem rep in the house and re-draw districts to make them more democratic. BTW- did you know that the 4.5 billion that ACORN is getting is roughly equivilant to the total amout of money that the state of Montana sends to the federal Gov in an entire year? That anount of money would fight the entire war on terror for a month? All of this for an organisation that lists it’s headquarters as a house in Chicago? WTF???

Obama is on the air now (speaking in Elkhart, IN - all the cable news channel are covering his speech). He will be on the air during prime time tonight at 8pm ET, his face blankets every damn magazine I see on the stands. You already know how pervasive his image and audio was during the long, long campaign. I've never seen anything like this, and I've been around for awhile.

With Obama and the 'RATs in power, that Drumbeat is getting louder and louder... :-(

That would be rather convenient if one were planning to hide something nefarious from the prying eyes of Congress.

This is a huge issue. This needs to be aggressively challenged. Why isn’t Michael Steele on TV demanding answers on this?? The GOP needs to start getting real assertive on these things. One side is playing for keeps, and it ain’t us (at least right now).
