Damascus - A delegation from the US Congress arrived in Damascus late Friday for talks with the Syrian officials, a US Embassy spokesman told Deutsche Presse-Agentur dpa. The congressional delegation, chaired by Democrat Representative Adam Smith, will discuss with Syrian officials US-Syrian relations and security cooperation. This is the first US delegation to visit the Syrian capital after US president Barack Obama was sworn in on January 20. Syrian observers expect the visit, and other visits expected to take place in February, aim at breaking the ice between Damascus and Washington. Smith, who has served for 12 years in the House of Representatives, is joined by other six other Democrat representatives: Gabrielle Giffords (D-Arizona), Ted Poe (R-Texas), Glenn Nye (D-Virginia), Representative Frank Kratovil (Maryland), Susan Davis (California), and C.A. Ruppersberger (Maryland). Syria's relations with the US struggled under former president George W. Bush, who frequently accused Damascus of allowing people and weapons across their border into Iraq to fight American troops. However, since the US change of power, Syrian President Bashar al-Assad has shown cautious optimism regarding the US-Syrian relations.
It doesn’t make sense to me that a Republican would join this “team Obama” Syrian love-fest. Is Poe a RINO?

The regime in Syria has NO redeeming features. It’s right at the center of the whole mess.
I don’t know who the hell this guy Poe is, but the leadership had better clue him in. He was mentioned in another story earlier, partnering with a California moonbat on some crazy bill.
Another tax payer vacation, what does these junkets prove... I have never read the end results of any of them..

SNIPPET: “A ship detained by Cyprus appears to be carrying banned weapon-related material from Iran prohibited under United Nations resolutions, a senior Cypriot source said on Saturday.
The source said that was the advice Cyprus received from a United Nations panel monitoring compliance of sanctions. The Mediterranean island had sought guidance from the body earlier in the week after submitting a list of findings from the vessel, detained in Cyprus from Jan. 29.
“They are saying that on the basis of evidence provided the shipment is a violation of United Nations Security Council resolutions,” the source, who requested anonymity, said.
The Cyprus-flagged “Monchegorsk” had been sailing from Iran to Syria when it was called in by Cyprus for checks.
The United States, which earlier boarded the ship in the Red Sea, said its navy found weapons on board which it could not confiscate for legal reasons.”

Ted Poe used to be a judge here in Texas. He had a reputation as a common-sense, old-school, hardass judge. Maybe he volunteered to keep an eye on the enemy...

He told us that he and his wife walked every morning and he was unable to walk with the hurt foot so he followed her in the car for her safety--it was really early when they walked.
One morning a cop came along and she flagged him down and told him that the man in the car had been following her for about 5 blocks...since she left home.
Could be that Poe is a watchdog!
