The new Great Communicator ... isn't (Libs getting nervous)
Salon.com ^ | 2/5/09 | Joan Walsh

Obama is the most remarkable Democratic communicator of my lifetime, I think, and even he's not rising to the task, yet. He needs to lay out his priorities, clearly; he needs to simplify his pitch, yet he also needs to add some depth to his and our understanding of how we got here. This economic crisis is not just about bad mortgages and/or the housing bubble bursting, and it won't be solved by reinflating that bubble, the Republicans' latest dumb idea. These problems have been building since at least the 1970s. Here's how Reich laid it out on Salon....

I would have to wonder if devaluing ever existed. Our standard of living significantly increased during this period, consumption of many items (cell phones tv’s vcrs, 2 automobiles in every home, upscale lifestyles, restaurants, and many other “luxury”items) did not decline, but skyrocketed, and became available to even those with modest means. Had most homes NEEDED income from 2 people to survive, this simply would not have been the case, as credit was not widely available and this generation was not yet the ones to pull equity out of their homes to go on vacation. These items would have simply been out of reach for the masses, and therefore, would not have come down in price due to mass production ie demand.

These times are no different than those in this respect. One can live on one income, by not trying to keep outdoing the Joneses. A small basic home, modest cars (used), lesser wardrobes, not having your kid in every lesson possible, taking camping vactions instead of bigger more expensive, eat home cooked food instead of out every night, there are a million ways to do it. I know I did for years in NJ.

Its the constant need to have things we have been sold by corporations and our government alike. How do you think we got to an economy that is based on consumerism instead of manufacturing? Buy, its patriotic-even after 9/11? No, save, shop smart for neccessities, and teach your kids the same! :)

“Democratic woes is to tag the Repubs as “selfish.” They don’t get that human nature is selfish. “

Leftists are only generous with other people's money. Economic Conservatives aren't “selfish”, so much as pragmatic.

Under capitalism, wealth is unevenly distributed. Under socialism, poverty is evenly distributed. Leftists are happy with a small piece of pie — so long as your slice isn't any bigger. They would turn down the choice of a bigger piece, if your slice would be even bigger. Conservatives want everyone to have more pie.

Me thinks Mr Berg will soon have a lot of company in his efforts to unmask "The One".

Zero's liberal buddies will be looking for an excuse to throw him to the wolves when he is risking their reelection.

“libs are getting nervous”

many people have been made nervous by liberal policies; high income taxes, high energy prices, high property taxes, high business taxes, class warfare, villifying “rich” people, re-distributing wealth, being elected to powerful political office and behaving like commissars.....

it’s entirely appropriate and just that the libs get “nervous”, for good reason.

IMHO

"He needs to lay out his priorities, clearly; he needs to simplify his pitch, yet he also needs to add some depth to his and our understanding of how we got here."

He doesn't have any "depth" of understanding about how we got here. He doesn't understand the basic ABCs of arithmetic or economics on the federal budget.

This is "Home Alone" at the White House. No adult is in charge.

Agreed.......the only time he communicates well is when he is reading something that someone else has written. If he has to speak without a prompter, he’s dead. The great communicator? I don’t think so.

What exactly passes for "communication" in the liberal mind?

When someone says what they want to hear.

I heard one lib express, generally, how she’s impressed with people who can use big words while speaking, even if she doesn’t know what they all mean.

I jumped all over it - yes, many people are easily fooled and confuse a good speaker, or good speech reader, with an actual intelligent person. Often, someone uses eloquent or complex phrases simply to hide the hard raw truth - but you like that, don’t you?

Amen, I totally agree with your entire post. Too bad no one in power will speak the plain truth and say what you said.

Earth to liberal. Obamachev has huge majorities so pass the bill you want. What’s the problem. Scared?

I must say, this aspect of the situation tickles me. Obama keeps bluffing "I won", but he won't just lead his party and get the porkulus bill passed, he wants the Republicans on board so bad it's killing him. What a politician, what a strategist. If it's so necessary, if they're so sure it's the right thing to do, why not just pass the damn thing as is? They wrote it, it's all theirs, pork, porn, and all. But they don't, and Obama crows "I won".

Shoot, President Reagan wouldn’t lower himself to fence with this rank amateur. He’d just bring a gun. Zero doesn’t deserve the honor of being considered a worthy opponent.
