With your help, Dogpile a Web search engine is raising money for animals in need with our Search & Rescue program. Now, Dogpile is helping in another, very special way.
Follow the story of Jack and Emma, a heartwarming journey of two dogs rescued by soldiers in wartime and brought home to live with them in the United States.

"Getting Jack is like having a piece of my husband back in the States" Lisa Barker
When Dogpile launched the Search & Rescue program, we had no idea our message would reach American soldiers overseas. But Dan Barker heard us from Afghanistan.
Dan, whose tour of duty was nearing its end, couldn't bear the thought of returning home without Jack, a malnourished, young stray he'd rescued and raised in his quarters.
Adam Krause, a U.S. solider serving with Dan, felt the same way about Emma, a struggling puppy he'd raised alongside Jack.
The soldiers had bonded with the puppies and knew that, if left in Afghanistan, Jack and Emma wouldn't survive the war-torn streets.
But bringing a puppy back from Afghanistan is expensive and dangerous. So when Dan read about Dogpile's Search & Rescue program, he turned to us for help.
***Jack and Emma's Journey*** November 14, 2008:
Wishing to bring the rescued puppies along in his return to the United States, Dan contacts Dogpile with a heartfelt plea for help.
Dogpile agrees to arrange and pay for the puppies' trip home and begins making arrangements to transport Jack and Emma from Afghanistan to the United States.
November 18, 2008:
Dans mother-in-law writes to Dogpile to explain how much our help means to her and her family:
"Jack has been Dan's rock over there. When he is out on missions and sees awful things, he comes back to his dog, Jack, and is able to have comfort. I'm so proud of my son-in-law... Thank you for supporting him too." Janice Rosengren
December 6, 2008:
Jack and Emma reluctantly leave Dan and Adam to begin their long journey to their new home in the United States.
December 20, 2008:
Jack and Emma arrive in New York to join Dan's wife, Lisa Barker, in the wait for the soldiers' safe arrival home.
"Jack has been such an important part of my husband's life these past few months. He has helped my husband, along with the men on his team, escape from the harsh reality they have been living in.
The things these men have to see and deal with truly force them to build a wall around their emotions. I believe Jack has been so therapeutic to my husband, and helped him through some of the toughest times.
Jack and Dan have formed a true companionship that I know will continue to grow over the years. I promise you Jack will have the most loving home and family a dog could ever ask for." Lisa Barker
As they get acquainted with their new families, Jack and Emma greet Dan and Adam via webcam each morning.
December 25, 2008:
Jack and Emma spend their first Christmas in their new home, and as Lisa says, get used to the idea of being "spoiled rotten" from now on.
January 30, 2009:
Jack and Emma are enjoying their time with Lisa in the Barker home, where they will soon be joined by Dan.
Check back for footage of the reunion!

You search the Web. Together we'll rescue pets.
We're on a mission to help pets in need. We call it our Search & Rescue program. Now when you search with Dogpile, a portion of the revenue generated will be donated to the pet charity ASPCA®.* The more you search, the more we'll rescue. It's that simple. Our goal is to raise $1 million for pet rescue by the end of 2009.

Awesome! Dogpile has been my search engine of choice for years. I recommend it most highly.
How could I make it my search engine, instead of going to the webpage? Would I have to download their toolbar?
I switched browsers. Using Google’s new “Chrome”, my 9 most visited sites are always on top & part of my home page, when I open a new page.
It took only 3 days to have Dogpile join freerepublic on my Chrome-home page.
save.
Bump for Wed. reading
That is good news. We just adopted a shepard mix from the NevadaSPCA and he is adorable and so well trained.
If you want to keep it as your default search page, go to your search window above, and click on the down arrow. Click on "change search defaults" and when the window opens, you type in the link for the dogpile page. simple as that.
Oops. quit too soon. No downloaded toolbar. just a simple link. see previous post.
Yes, indeed. I have been using Dogpile for almost as long as I have been online.
I also recommend www.intellicast.com for weather. It's radar and satellite services have always been of great use to pilots and air traffic controllers.
nice story
thanks for the ping!
