Michael Steele, the new chairman of the Republican National Committee wants the GOP to reach out to candidates who support gay marriage and are pro-choice. Steele told Fox's Chris Wallace that it was "important" to reach out to those voters.
WALLACE: You are one of the co-founders of something called the Republican Leadership Council which supports candidates who favor abortion and gay rights.
STEELE: Yes.
(watch video)
WALLACE: Does the GOP needs to do a better job of reaching out to people who hold those views?
STEELE: I think -- I think that's an important opportunity for us, absolutely. Within our party we do have those who have that view as well as outside and my partnership with Christy Todd Whittman was an effort to build a bridge between moderates and conservatives.

I’m afraid you are mistaken, sir. RR was not the sort of man who would demonize gays or treat them poorly. RR was kind to all (non-Soviets, anyway), and should be our example.
And are you suggesting we jail gays?
Alright, I’ll concede that’s a good point. I still say we give Steele a chance.
Do we have a choice?
There will always be a state line to cross. This is why I believe the political stage is the wrong place to fight this battle. To change the mindset of those in society that believe abortion is an acceptable option, we need to bring it back to our homes and work outwards.
The abortion issue is a political football owned by the party in power.
In a nut shell I think concentrating on Roe v Wade is a waste of time...ain't gonna happen. So I choose to fight the battle on another front.
Conservative or not?
What we’re seeing is the folks who play republican because they want to get rich, not because they have any love for, or understanding of, the basic principles. There is not a thing wrong with getting rich, the honest way, but these folks don’t want to go to that much trouble! The democrats have a similar group. I really can’t see enough difference to worry about, I’m fed up with all of them.
Libertarians are just well armed liberals that don’t want to pay taxes!
So in your opinion, all Republicans must be:
1) Christian
2) Anti-Abortion
3) Straight
???
Please explain, as I thought conservatism was:
1) Country and Constitution
2) Small Government, low taxes
I’d say that the first 3 you wrote is exactly right with the other two plus strong defence
Are you in RI?
I agree. We very much need an oasis of conservatism where we can get serious conservative reinforcement during these times.
If we concentrate on smaller government and less taxes then we can avoid many RINO arguments because government won’t have the money to get involved in all these social issues.
We just have to find a way to fight off the federal courts and Congress with their unfunded mandates and cultural dictatorship.
Maybe it is time for states to say no to federal funding so as to regain their liberty - state by state.
the republican party is for traditional marriage and not for the homo perverted agenda.
just saw that you are pro choice too.
out of curiousity are you in the north east?
to me is the homo agenda
that is anti traditional family which has been the backbone of this country.
Having homo’s marry, get a hold of kids and teach it is normal is very anti family in my book
Thanks for the link. I read it. I still don’t know what Steele will do, exactly, but I’m willing to wait and see for now.
Well, no, we don’t. :-)
said the every same too.
I had the displeasure of living up in the north east and sadly there are a lot of Rudy’s there.
They go to church but have no problem with homo’s and abortion.
there is a big difference between republican and conservative I have found on my travels to the north east.
“I know here that you will agree with me that standing up for America also means standing up for the God who has so blessed our land. I believe this country hungers for a spiritual revival. I believe it longs to see traditional values reflected in public policy again. To those who cite the first amendment as reason for excluding God from more and more of our institutions and everyday life, may I just say: The first amendment of the Constitution was not written to protect the people of this country from religious values; it was written to protect religious values from government tyranny.”
- Ronald Reagan -
“Faith in God, patriotism, freedom, the love of freedom, family, work, neighborhood — the heart and soul of America’s past and the promise of her future. If we stand together and live up to these principles, we will not fail.”
- Ronald Reagan -
The federal courts will not allow state anti-abortion laws to stand. RINO’s like it that way.
What now?
why can’t a homosexual be reached you asked
HOW?
homo’s already know what our platform is.
traditional marriage is one of them now if they come to vote for the GOP (which most wouldn’t) then it would mean the GOP would have to be for their sick perverted agenda.
Unless you want that ????????????
No way would that go down for the majority of the conservative base
So in essence, gain what 5,000voters and lose over two million
Certainly not the Republican Party with its power-at-any-price mentality. As long as the GOP beats the Democrats, thats all that matters, even if it means being just like them!
Dark, I'm still waiting for that FReepmail. Or a reply from someone who thinks like you do - who thinks I'm an idiot.
So far - nothing. nada. zip.
But as you can see - I've pinged a few FReepers who have taken you to task. A few FReepers who have tried - as I have to point out the foolishness of your posts.
Looks like you are outnumbered. You are not alone in voicing your support for Steele and his call for more gays and more pro-abortion voters.
But you are in the minority. And you are wrong.
But what do I know. I'm an idiot, huh?
What they are going to do is split the GOP into a me too dem light party and a Christian party and they will never win an other election again....Hey just what the dems want.
