Governor calls up record number of Guard troops

Some 4,600 Kentucky National Guard troops are part of a record-setting effort to dig out from a paralyzing winter storm that continues to leave hundreds of thousands Kentuckians in the dark and is being blamed on a growing number of deaths.

"We're in for a long haul here," said Gov. Steve Beshear at a Saturday night press conference at the Boone Guard Center in Frankfort. Kentucky "is in the middle of the biggest natural disaster this state has ever experienced in modern history."

Beshear said state officials have confirmed seven deaths as storm related. But, he said, a total of 21 deaths are under investigation for being caused by the fierce weather conditions.

Updated numbers of Ky. customers without power Two nursing homes and six shelters in Western Kentucky, the hardest hit area of the state, have no power.

The whole reason this ice storm even came about is Obomba's fault. He hasn't stopped global warming like he said he would. The Earth is warming and that's why we get ice. Obomba said he'd make the ocean levels fall and he hasn't. The icebergs are still melting and the polar bears have no where to stand. You people need to get with the program:

Obomba's Fault...
Obomba's Fault...

(Keep repeating until you die. That's what the 'Rats did with Bush. It's only fair to play by the same "rules".)

(sarcasm if you didn't get it)

If FEMA wantd to be there at the nursing homes without power, they’d be there.

We’re 5 days and counting.

The hypocracy of the left is just mindboggling. One poster thinks they should just pull themselves up by the bootstraps and quit whining. Liberal twit would probably cry if his/her mommy asked him/her to take out the garbage in 50 degree weather.

Obama hasn’t even ackmowledged these suffering people and the media hasn’t said jack squat about it. Its a disgrace.

In today's world, if the MSM does not acknowledge the problem, then it does not exist. There is no ice storm. There are no dead.

Too improbable? The MSM has already proven it controls perception of events and history with its non-reporting of the starvation of millions in Ukraine by Stalin in the 1930's.

Not to mention they would be saying global warming caused the storm and Bush caused global warming therefore, Bushs’ fault. Amd God help him if there was one black person affected.

Obama controls the waters... remember?

He could’ve given them a message of hope and perserverance before leaving for the superbowl party.

My fervent prayers for all those states affected.

I have lived in this area for over 50 years and this is the worst disaster I have seen.

It was surreal to listen the first night of the limbs crashing down and what we thought was lightening but instead was transformers blowing up.

There are 150 people where I work and about 80% of them still are without electricity. Yesterday they were finally able to open up most of the city streets, stacking piles of limbs and trees on the side of the roads.

There are people waiting in lines just for the next tanker to arrive with fuel.

Utilities companies have not only been hampered with the debris getting to the lines but also communication. One of the companies finally went to satellite phones after trying to use cell phones from three different providers and still losing service.

Here we are five days afterwards and about 2/3 of my area is still without electricity and it’s the third largest city in Kentucky.

The other day people were talking about how things were going to change when Zero sent in FEMA, which hasn’t shown up yet.

Well I can see today is going to be another fun day when I get to work and ask how all the Zero voters are going to enjoy the Superbowl today. Oops, they probably won’t be able to see it as they don’t have any electricity.

Even though I can’t feel sorry for the people that voted for Zero, I have taken in several animals to care for as they can’t be blamed for the stupidity of their owners.

Does anyone have the phone number to the White House switchboard? I just tried to yahoo it and couldn't find it.

I suggest that once a kind FReeper posts the number that we all call the switchboard leaving a message such as: There are taxpayers in Kentucky, the Ozarks, Arkansas, and Oklahoma who are freezing to death because FEMA hasn't been called out to help them. I request that the President cancel his Super Bowl party and do his job by getting aid to them!

FEMA has to be requested by the governor to come in to work in the state.

Isn't Governor Beshear a Democrat?

WASHINGTON - D.C. has been the recipient of some ‘chilly’ comments from the new president who implied that the area is full of ‘weather wimps’ for calling off school in the area’s latest bout of wintry weather.

The busses were parked and the building locked at Sidwell Friends School in NW Wednesday. This left Mr. Obama, father of two Sidwell students, asking why?

“Because of what, some ice? Obama heckled.
