So, if his feet hadn’t been held to the fire by virtue of another chance to slop at the public trough he would not have bothered to fix the problem. What a crock. We could probably completely pay off the public debt if they just audited all the people in Congress.
If I could pass but one law in the whole world it would be that members of Congress have to live by the same laws the common folk do, period. No special retirement benefits, no special health care deals, no comp parking at the airport, etc. Every law/rule that my wife and I have to live by would be their burden too.
And by the way, I don’t see any mention of him paying a penalty for failing to file correctly in the first place. I had a run in with IRS some years ago and a $6,500 tax bill became over $27,000 with interest and the 100% penalty the added.
This is going to be fun to watch, post-Geitner confirmation.

Heck, none of these rich Dems pay their taxes. I am self-employed and virtually impoverished by tax payments I have had to make for several years because of the collapse of my income stream during one year (I had to live on what I had saved to pay the IRS). Why in the world are these people, who probably earn at least 30 times my highest income, being permitted to skate like this?

Didn’t Daschle also get a sweetheart deal on a vacation home in North Carolina? Seems that came up just prior to him being voted out of office in South Dakota. Like Christopher Dodd, I would bet that he cannot produce his mortgage papers.

As a US Senator Tommy Daschle also took DC Homestead exemptions to reduce the property taxes on his mansion even though he was not a DC resident.
