We don’t need to play the affirmative action game. Michael Steele stand on his own competence.

Kind of ironic seeing as Michael Steele is a big supporter of affirmative action. Not a very "conservative" position.

I tend to agree. We really need a person to be an articulate spokesman. We have been letting the dems define us with no pushback for far too long. Haley Barbour was a good spokesman that way as Chairman during the Clinton years.

“Whoever wins, I hope they are a small target. They will immediately be the target of talk show host jokes and SNL skits. “

Then let’s hope for Steele. Making fun of Steele would raise his profile a bit and it would wake people up and actually help the GOP. And Steele can fire back.
“He’s african-American? Huh. How about that.”

Yup. Haley Barbour was our best RNC chair in 20 years.

Maybe Steele can rise to that level too.

It looks like Steele is going to get it. Good for him.

I think Steele is just what the GOP needs in this position.

He is an anti-gun, East Coast elitist. I will not support those who compromise on my rights.

I had a lib friend tell me that Steele was just tokenism. She admitted she wasn’t aware of how long he had been involved in party politics. She acted like we just picked him up off the street to run because he’s black.

Lots of territories like Guam, Puerto Rico, etc. get a vote.

From NRO campaign spot:

It is not unthinkable that the race could come down to Dawson and Steele, and there are already murmurs of, ‘Can you imagine how the coverage will be if the guy who was in the country club beats an African-American on the final ballot?’

If the majority of the U.S. voting general public just get used to “government dependency”,

The bottom 50% of U.S. workers pay virtually no federal income tax right now. Add in the people on welfare and most U.S. citizens pay no federal income tax. Most U.S. citizens get government benefits without paying for them. It's already too late.

There is a secret ballot, tellers have just taken the ballots to count.

There are 168 votes available - Here's a list of the voting members.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Republican_National_Committee_members

Many states are allotted 4 voting members, while others have 3.

I tend to agree. Plus, if Dawson wins then Republicans would have chosen a recent member of a whites-only country club over a black man as their committee chair. Not exactly the best image of inclusiveness to be projecting at this point.

- they have to be out by 5 since the ballroom has a wedding coming in

Let the wedding guests help pick the RNC chairman just like we let the Dems pick the Republican nominee with our open primaries.

168 Total Votes.

Each state has three votes (State Chairman, National Committeeman and National Committewoman).

The remaining 18 votes come from various GOP organizations.

A majority of the 168 (or 85) wins the national chairmanship.
