Second ballot:
168 ballots. 85 to win --
Mike Duncan - 48
Michael Steele - 48
Katon Dawson - 29
Saul Anuzis - 24
Ken Blackwell - 19
I agree, but there are many in the RNC who don't believe that Steele is conservative enough.
too many people around here to do that. thats fine in fly over country.
I dunno, the real Conservative choice was Blackwell and he got about 20 votes...
The party gets no more cash from me if it is Steele or Duncan.
I’m done feeding RINO’s.
WHOLEY CRAP BATMAN!
Look at Steele! O.o
right off the bat you caucused for Dukakis. that too me tells me there is a problem.
I dont need anybody in my face who dosen’t want to lose teeth.
I want a booth....
this system, gave us the Obamanation we are stuck with now.
As horrible as it sounds either Hillary or McCain would have been better.....sob sisters at caucuses were afraid to hear that they didn’t want to vote for the Brother and didnt want people to think they were howwible Wacists....
Incumbent-—he’s been in charge and gets all the credit for our last cycle.
Till someone gets 85 votes, as many rounds as it takes.
>> Michael Steele was sitting in for Bill Bennett on Morning in America he defended Eric Holder (an old friend of his, he said.)
In today’s New Racism society, color identification trumps common sense and conservative ideology.
Ref: Colin Powell.
Steele has a reputation as a gun grabber; so does Holder. I see where this is going. More “big government” Republicanism. (R) will be (Dimocrap Lite).
sigh
Not that it makes much of a difference one way or the other, but at least Steele would give us a fresh face. Why on earth would we re-elect Duncan?
“Steele is articulate and looks good on TV”
This is perhaps the #1 reason for him. He can make for a good ‘face of the party’ on the talking head shows, far better than some of the others we’ve had.
” but I need to be convinced of his depth.”
The Newt folks like him because he did a good job at GOPAC.
The RNC head job is fundraising, helping the organization, and party building, and being spokesman.
“Steele has a reputation as a gun grabber.”
First I’ve heard of that, any evidence?
“Incumbent-hes been in charge and gets all the credit for our last cycle.”
Ah. So we need to know who voted for this guy, as a matter of some urgency.
The RNC killed us in the last election, with the whole split-the-vote stuff.
Whoever voted for this guy should be voted out. THEN we’d be getting somewhere.
Is it a secret ballot?
Oh, I didn’t VOTE for Dukakis...I just wanted him to be the Democratic nominee. I voted Libertarian in the general.
“We dont need to play the affirmative action game. Michael Steele stand on his own competence.”
I agree. Steele is the best wrt articulation of those running,
although the others like Saul Anuzi are not bad.
The main issue is that he’s not as conservative as others. OTOH, he is a conservative overall, and RNC Chair is mostly operational/strategy, fundraising, and communications.
I hope whoever wins works on revamping the RNC and making it a more open party, more tuned to the grassroots, and more effective at leveraging new technologies, such as web 2.0 platforms, etc.
For those that like Steele...who did you support in the Republican primary? I just would like to see which side you come down on since I don’t know a lot about Steele.
Duncan withdraws
First round vote Duncan got 52 votes. They must think he did a great job and needs to help us lose again.
Duncan’s out. Speaking now.
Duncan has withdrawn...now we need to see where his votes break. The conventional wisdom is that Steele has wrapped up the moderates and the conservatives will split between Blackwell and Dawson. Now it gets interesting.
