Hill Republican: Stimulus aids illegal immigrants

WASHINGTON: A top Republican congressional aide says the $800 billion-plus economic stimulus measure could steer government checks to illegal immigrants.

Republican officials are concerned that the Democratic-written legislation makes people who came to the United States illegally eligible for tax credits of $500 per worker and $1,000 per couple.

A House-passed version of the bill and one making its way through the Senate both disqualify nonresident aliens from receiving the credits. But neither requires a worker to have a Social Security number to get the credits.

An economic aid measure enacted in February 2008 that sent rebates to most wage earners required that people have valid Social Security numbers in order to get checks.

Okay, how in the HELL do people who haven’t paid taxes get a tax credit?!?!?!?!
This is the first year in a LONG time that I’ve actually OWED taxes, and they get a CREDIT?!
Flagg’s a little pissed....

Try owing every year .... then you'll be beyond pissed.

Wow—and my husband and I are probably just barely “phased out” of the $1000 because last year we made together just enough to not qualify. . .even though he’s been laid off since Dec 3rd and is now starting a new job making what he made 7 years ago (”underemployed”).

And yet we are U.S. citizens. . .I feel so. . .defeated.

I owe every year. It keeps me pissed (which is good) because I see just how much is being stolen from me every year, and I absolutely refuse to let them get paid any interest for abusing it.

But neither requires a worker to have a Social Security number to get the credits.

Something is very very wrong here. Don't they have to have a SSN to legally work in the first place?

Big suprise, folks, America is over, the one you knew is gone, Glenn Beck said it best, they are spending 258 thousand dollars per job created on this stimulas package, doesn’t make sense, you’re money is being taken away and given to illegals, and it will mostly work through obama’s health care plan, and when Mexico collapses, and it will, famine and disease are coming our way, the end is near, almost at the door.

If he votes for this, it will reveal him for a very craven political figure. I’ll give him the last bailout, considering how it was sold. (He may not have voted for it. For some reason it sticks in my mind, that he didn’t.) It was totally wrong, but I can see how a guy would make a mistake and support it. I did. I shouldn’t have. There isn’t a hint of sanity related to this bill. And if he votes for it, it will destroy any ability he has to say he is a reasoned fiscal Conservative.

The original bill was sold as a rescue of our Credit markets. I suckered for it. They said they had to have it in days or else. That was months ago, and they haven’t even used the funds yet. And what they are beginning to contemplate using it for, is way far afield from what they said they needed it for.

Those who stated we should let the markets do their thing were exactly right. I don’t like to admit it, but this was a huge mistake on my part.

I don’t think McCain will vote for this monstrosity.

Well, they'd better start opening their mouths in front of cameras, calling press conferences, running ads, etc., and spilling the beans on these dirty little secrets.

I am sick and tired of waiting for these people to state the obvious, let alone play some hardball.

Absolutely. One-time payment to each CITIZEN of whatever amount. CAVEAT: That money MUST be used to pay off/down outstanding debt, starting with mortgages, car payments, and on down. After that, spend away, but NO CREDIT until the economy achieves homeostasis.

The creditors get their money (what money? they never had it to begin with).
The debtors are in the black.
Business and industry hit the reset button and start anew.
Finance and investment hit the reset button and start anew.
Blah blah blah.

Ya, I know. WAY too simplistic and would never work for a zillion reasons.

One could also say that much of the money going to infrastructure will also go to illegals.

.

Who said Republicans were a bunch of spineless, unprincipled ninnies? Tonight’s news that every single House Republican voted NAY on the Democrats’ Generational Theft Act of 2009 is already breathing new life into conservatism. Notwithstanding tales of Republicans fighting for pictures of themselves yukking it up with President Obama, the congressional GOP — finally free from President Bush — is no longer apologizing for its conservatism.

Even better: Republicans are also rediscovering that conservatism can and should be fun. Rep. John Carter, a Republican from Texas, has introduced a bill that would create the “Rangel Rule.” Advancing the idea that everyone deserves equal under the law, Carter’s bill stipulates that anyone paying overdue taxes can write “Rangel Rule” across his/her returns and the IRS would be forbidden from charging fees or penalties.

House Republicans said their counter stimulus bill would create twice as many jobs at half the cost. Whose numbers did they rely on? None other than President Obama’s Council of Economic Advisers’ Chairwoman. (Clearly, a right-wing nutjob!)

Here’s hoping Senate Republicans follow in-kind. Perhaps one might even have the audacity to filibuster.

Polls may show Obama to be the cat’s pajamas, but that doesn’t mean his policies make sense. Committing America to a trillion dollars in new debt is a path not to prosperity, but to poverty. Senate Republicans need to embrace their conservative principles now more than ever.
