This morning, the New York Daily News published my op-ed on President Barack Obama's decision to close Guantanamo and suspend the Military Commissions:
With his shameful order to close Guantanamo Bay, President Obama has perfectly filled the stereotype of the classic clueless ultra-Liberal -- the one who can generate great passion for the rights of the guilty defendant and none for the innocent victim. With a single stroke of the pen, Obama has delayed justice for the victims of 9/11, and in essence granted a reprieve for Al Qaeda mastermind Khalid Shaikh Mohammed, the architect of 9/11.
America does not honor our "rule of law and the rights of man" as he put in his inauguration speech by such an action. Instead, this nation abdicated its duty to justice.
It seems the new President is too far removed from the victims of 9/11. Victims like 11-year-old Bernard Curtis Brown, a passenger on American Airlines Flight 77, which crashed into the Pentagon. Everyone onboard was killed, as well as [125] people in the Pentagon. Curtis was on a trip with several of his classmates to California sponsored by National Geographic.
Obama and the Democrats have had a blind spot for 9/11 and have yet to show they have an ounce of understanding what happened that day.
Here is why we were attacked: Muslim extremists hate Americans and want us dead. Our policies in no way influenced the vitriol perpetuated on innocent Americans on September 11, 2001. ...

> The Congressional authorization for the U.S. military campaigns in Afghanistan is nothing more than an open-ended commitment involving no defined enemy, no conditions for “victory,” etc. It can be construed to mean whatever any future administration wants it to mean — though its ultimate intent is to provide the legal basis for U.S. military commitments that will likely last several generations.
So why is that a problem? The British Empire worked that way for many, many years, particularly during Victoria’s reign.
Dude your so far off the beaten path its funny. I’ve been called a lot of things in my days but Liberal ain’t been one of them until today.
please go back and read the chain of events and you will see the light.
I was reinforcing what Albertas Child said in their post to “DieHard the Hunter” quote: “U.S. military campaigns in Iraq and Afghanistan probably dont even constitute warfare under the legal standards of the United States.” as well they don’t fall under a formal Declaration of War.
I have got to ask the question what makes you think I’m liberal? You are seeing something that just ant there Bubba. Check my history.
> That’s fine. Then let’s call it what it is: empire building, not “national defense,” “defending our freedom,” or any of that other nonsense that you hear tossed about by leftists and “conservatives” alike.
The US in Afghanistan is cerainly not “Empire Building” as there is no suggestion of the US keeping any territory or resources that it gains.
But, like the British methodology, there’s nothing wrong with being on a constant war footing and having soldiers more-or-less permenently deployed overseas. It just makes sense. Why should all wars be tidy set-piece battles?
It happens that the WOT is a movable feast: that is because the Bad Guys won’t obligingly hold still in one place so that they can be bombed back into the Old Testament where they belong. Bloody inconvenient of them, but that’s how it is.
Its far from empire building. Basic tactics, why fight the enemy on your soil when you can take the fight to them. Yes it is defense because all that are terminated outside the country will not be a problem in the future inside the country.
Reach out and touch them. Problem is I fear we are going to tie the hands of our troops now and that will be problem.
AMERICA’S IMAGE DAMAGED BY GITMO????
Personally, I can give 2 shites about what others think about us. not when defense of the homeland and the world at large is at stake. What the genious troll who made that idiotic statement above forgets is this......Talk to anyone anywhere in the developed world and the response is the same. HOW THE HELL DID YOU VOTE THE SOCIALIST IN??? Most of the world knnows and agrees with the policies W enacted as a result of 9/11.
I really think Barack wants the opportunity just like Bubba did, to take a pass and not retaliate, just like in ‘93. In 4 days he has taken steps to make this a possibility. I can see Biden’s prediction come truue and Barack gets tested and he’ll hide under the desk and the rest of the world will say a collective IWE TOLD YOU SO!!!
Closing Gitmo and housing those thugs, not POW’s on our soil? I don’t think so!!!
Imagine meeting you folks here - ;-)
Who Cares?
AS an AMERICAN, I do not want you to LIKE US ... I want you to RESPECT US.. and if you Will not Respect US ... I WANT YOU TO FEAR US!!
I couldn’t of said it any better myself.
Imagine that!!!
But I’ve got to get someone else to throw in his 2 cents!!!
You are indeed the worst kind of fool. Maybe we should put these TERRORIST MURDERERS right on your doorstep.
It’s quite probable that some of the info we’ve gotten from some of these terrorist combatants has prevented a few attacks on your soil, too. Your simple-minded foolishness is only superceded by your blind ignorance.
I know we’re on the same page.....
It’s just too damn bad That One is trying to wreck it all and send us back to the stone age all at once.
On a Sunday, even! =)
LOL - yep, gotta have Clint here too.
Ain’t Sunday afternoon discussions great??
I’m not too crazy about this one. Dealing with useless idiots who think they are oh so intelligent and superior is not my favorite pastime.
See what kind of audience you attract??
