McCain Campaign Manager Blames Rush Limbaugh for McCain's Loss
Rush Limbaugh ^ | 2009-01-16

Posted on 01/17/2009 7:01:24 AM PST by rabscuttle385

RUSH: Ladies and gentlemen, have you thought back to the 2008 election? Have you asked yourself who was responsible for that loss? Have you asked yourself who really should shoulder the blame and the burden for the defeat of Senator McCain? A lot of people have been speculating this, a lot of postmortems on the election. Let's go to the BBC. BBC World Service, host Stephen Sackur spoke with former McCain campaign manager Rick Davis and asked Rick Davis on whose shoulders rests the burden of the McCain defeat.

DAVIS: We didn't successfully reach out to them. I mean, but you look at the leadership John McCain gave which is counter to the direction that the party was headed, when you have the Rush Limbaughs of the world who, you know, literally almost feed the nativist attitude toward immigration reform, what do you think the Hispanic voter, the Latino voter is gonna remember? They're gonna remember the attacks, not the efforts by people like John McCain to try and reform.

RUSH: So there you have it, Rick Davis, the campaign manager for McCain, has dumped on my shoulders the reason McCain lost and others like me alienated Hispanic voters. This is so wrong on so many levels, but it explains why this campaign was so inept. A brief time-out. Just wanted you to hear that so you could stew over it.

A very sound opinion, I might add.

So then the core of America likes Obama? Is that the conclusion to draw? I don’t think your comments have much to do with my point.

My argument exactly. By their fruits you'll know them. Too many of the McCainannites are so used to eating rotted fruit they can't tell the difference anymore. I think, as a party, that's become the story of too many Repubs.

Bush wanted BHO to win. He and McCain were like water and oil.

Rick Davis is one homely dude. Further, McCain told crowds not to be afraid of Obama and that BHO would be a good president. He did himself in by being a rat to the base while cow towing to the Obama media. To blame Rush is nonsense. I don’t know anyone for McCain, not even McCain imo. I think he wanted to be the fall guy.

Crist in Fla endorsed McCain cuz he wanted to be VP. Meanwhile, Crist is our clueless governor = absent from work more than at the capital. Thank God Crist isn’t the VP. He’d be no better than Biden, maybe even worse.

The economy was tanking already but was timed to tank to sink MCain once and for all. Bush was a closet BHO fan imo. Bush can do cut throat stuff like tell Paulsen when to yell, “danger ahead”. McCain should blame Bush, not Rush.

When I saw McCain tell a crowd on tv that BHO wasn’t an arab and would be a good president, I KNEW Mccain wasn’t that into running. Fake nice guys finish last. If it wasn’t for Palin, I would not have voted at all.

mccain should look into the mirror for the one to blame. Blaming Rush is delusional.

It's crossed my mind a few times that maybe JOHN McCAIN wanted B. Hussein Obama to win! He sure seems to be a big fan of The Messiah...

McCain likes to hug. I don't think he's that cerebral. Maybe McCain likes the spotlight but beyond that, I don't know anybody who picked him to begin with. Something untoward happened w/all these dynasties and the nation's punishment is Obama.

BHO keeping the tax cheat in charge of the treasury is our 1st punishment.

Sometimes I think that “immanentizing the eschaton” is our only hope. I couldn’t bring myself to put that into action by voting for bammy, but that’s where we’re going. Amen.

“.....ACORN and other voter fraud schemes”

-— I think there was alot of that going on.

One thing I can say about the Democrats — they stand behind their candidate, whereas, we criticize, chew up, and spit out ours.

What ever happened to the “80% Reagan Rule” and it makes me wonder how many of the posters are really Republicans, Conservatives or Libertarians.

They would rather have an Obama Adm. who wants a one-of-a-kind medical care, to tax the ‘rich’ who produce the jobs, REALLY grow the government like we have never seen before.

These next few years will be very interesting. It will be interesting to see how Obama will bring us thu this economic downfall that was created by his organizations. May I...... and please watch for one of the following that has already been ‘renamed’ which he has been talking about these last 3 days.

Community Organizer -—— Community Reinvestment Act -——
ACORN (Community Organization for Reform Now)

I voted for John McCain, I did not want a Democrat in the White House. I will always vote, never sit it out to make my point.

Exactly.

McCain lost the election. He was such an awful choice - the worst of the GOP candidates - that hardly anyone could have expected him to win in the first place. He greatly hurt his party. This raises the question - was the election fixed for Hillary/Obama to win?

No, Rush is not to blame.

Operation Chaos didn't begin until after McCain had sewn up the GOP nomination. It's not Rush's job to focus on other GOP candidates, it's their job to make their own cases. Romney threw $40 million at it and sunk like a rock. Thompson never got off the Ambien. The Huckster decided to be a McCain stalking horse. For Guiliani, it was over before it got started. He needed to make his case in Iowa and New Hampshire. Ron Paul never had a chance.

So, who was Rush supposed to focus on?

I understand your point. Maybe the answer is not who, but what. When Rush made fun of Michael J. Fox’s movements during his testimony to Congress, he could have just gone after the issue without attacking the man.

Just curious - did Rush go after the “The Republicans are going to make all birth control illegal!!!!!!” meme? This issue will rear its ugly head again in 2012 because it was effective so I hope Rush will cover it. It’s why 70% of single women voted for Obama. That and they wanted world peace. :)

You'd generally be more believable in other things you say if you weren't recycling other people's mischaracterizations as fact. It was Michael J. Fox who said that before testimony or public appearances he would forego his medication in order to make his Parkinsons tremors more extreme. Someone like this deserves to be called on it. That's not "making fun" of him, simply drawing attention to his deliberate exploitation of his medical condition for partisan political purposes.

I have no idea what you’re talking about, but I’ll tell you this:

I have a debilitating disorder, and that disorder pretty much cost me everything in my life. If I were to try to get help for it, I’d be damn sure I’d show what a bad day was like as opposed to a good day. A day that is controlled is not the same as a day that isn’t controlled - the seriousness of the illness might not be appreciated. Fox did what he had to do.

I mischaracterized nothing.
