NEW YORK Barack Obama and his message of change will get a ringing endorsement on Inauguration Day from 12 bells at a church near ground zero.
"Change ringing is a way that we express the joy of our community, and I think much of the nation is joyous about this inauguration," said Jeremy Bates, a Manhattan lawyer and former Obama campaign worker who will be among the 12 ringers pulling on sturdy ropes in the church's bell tower to mark the historic occasion.
Change ringing is far more common outside the United States. Most cathedrals in England have sets of 12 bells like the one at Trinity, the largest in this country. The National Cathedral in Washington, D.C., has a set of 10.
On Tuesday, the ringers will climb 100 steps of a narrow, spiral staircase and a 20-foot ladder to a tiny change-ringing room, 20 feet below the belfry of the church near the World Trade Center site.
In the sanctuary below, several hundred people will watch the swearing-in of the nation's first black president on a giant television. When the ceremony ends, the ringers will begin the peal.

Bttttt—what about separation of church and state? Oh, when demrats want to blend the two that’s entirely ok.
This is Trinity Wall Street. A very rich parish.
But so were the Titanic and the Hindenburg.
A woman, I know who leads a youth group at her church, is planning this Sunday to encourage kids to pray for Obama to be successful at bringing world peace and social justice for all (re: big govt programs). I’m glad I don’t attend that particular Evangelical church.
According to the Left, banning gay marriage and restricting abortion rights are political wedge issues that divide America. Supporting education spending growth & universal healthcare are social justice issues that bring people together.
Our Orthodox Church does not allow televisions in its temples. There are a lot more interesting, important, and BLESSED things going on in them anyway!!!!
On the day of the inauguration, I will be quite busy with work, and preparing to speak at a conference later that week. So I will not watch the proceedings live, but will eventually catch them on YouTube. I will, however, spend some time in prayer on Tuesday.
Why can’t these people see that although they voted for change, all they’re (and we’re) getting is the third term of the clinton administration? That’s nothing to ring the bells about!!
Psalm 146:3
Do not put your trust in princes, in mortal men, who cannot save.
_____________
Amen.
God will ring back; I’m certain of it.
Pingaling! (hope you didn’t just eat)
In Lutheran churches still using the Lutheran Book of Worship (somewhat rare) the Psalm for Morning Prayer on Tuesdays (that it is said, rarer still) is Psalm 146.
I find that a very helpful corrective each Primary and General Election Day!
Something for all of us to say during the inaugaration.
1 [Psalm 146] A hymn of someone who has learned there is no other source of strength except the merciful God. Only God, not mortal humans (Psalm 146:3-4), can help vulnerable and oppressed people (Psalm 146:5-9). The first of the five hymns that conclude the Psalter.
Thanks for reminding us who really runs things!
.......Put no trust in princes, in mere mortals powerless to save.
When they breathe their last, they return to the earth; that day all their planning comes to nothing......
We sing a version of that verse (part of the Second Antiphon) in every Divine Liturgy in the Orthodox Church in America!
And with all the hollow adulation and jubilation over the election of Obama, I’ve been thinking about it a lot, too.
Ask her if she wants Zero to be successful in bringing back partial birth murder. Tell her about that act he wants passed,,,FOCA, Freedom of Choice Act. Sounds so nice! But is so evil. He said that’s one of the first things he’d get passed. You know this, but she doesn’t, or she doesn’t care and is pro-abortion. When she says “the right to choose” ask her “to choose WHAT, killing a baby?”.
CHURCH bells ringing for a regurgitated Clinton administration???
Change??? LOL LOL
May God have mercy on the USofA.
Oh, as a follow up, last night I thought of another way to reach this woman who is the church youth group leader who supports Zero.
How about using this arguement,,,,if that person is pro-abortion or even just pro-Obama....ask her to look out upon her group of kids, and have her ask herself which of the lovely young people in her youth group she would have wanted to not be there, because their mother “chose” to abort them.
Maybe that would hit home with her. It is so hard to change the mind of a liberal, but bluntness and connecting her belief in abortion to the reality of what it does (the imagining of not having some of her youth group alive because of abortion) might be effective.
Actually she ended up voting for McCain. She admired both McCain and Obama. She picked McCain because she felt McCain was more Christ-like. To her, Jesus is about reaching across the aisle. She tells kids instead of banning abortions, Christians need to reach out to pro-choice activists in order to work together to reduce abortions via universal healthcare, living wages, free college educations for all.
Well at least she voted for the side of good. There are some like her who voted against Obama but now say we should support him. I strongly disagree with that. I would never support or wish success in office to a man that wants to implement the bad things he believes in. God knows our hearts, he is the one I want to please. I don’t believe supporting an abortion lover like Obama pleases The Lord.
