Personally, I do not put “emancipation” of Iraqis or Afghans above fundamental US interests, but I happen to think it was in our interest to crush the depraved govts. in both of those places — whether something better can replace them permanently was never any sure thing, but I think that there has been much progress and can be much more progress.
Again, when it comes to deployment of US military men and women I focus only upon what is truly in our national security interests, not on whether a President wants to be known as another “Great Emancipator” — but while President Bush has already laid claim to the title Obamanation has done NOTHING but NOTHING to claim such a title..... and in fact he has advocated policies throughout that would have left Iraqis under the heel of Saddam Hussein and then Obambi would have surrendered to the worst terrorist mass-murderers in fleeing prematurely from Iraq.
Someone should tell Obama Mr Lincoln’s favorite song was “Dixie.”

I have a theory. He is so obsessed with Lincoln because he believes Lincoln “did not go far enough,” that Lincoln did not give reparations to slaves. He will “finish” the work that Lincoln began. He is the great unifier — he will unite blacks and whites by making getting even with whitey, making him pay for slavery 150+ years ago. Can’t you almost hear it in a speech?

The speech will include phrases like, “We all are going to have to sacrifice to right this injustice and clean this stain from our national identity.” and “I am going to complete the work that Lincoln began so long ago from my state of Illinois.”
