new, heavily researched book on John F. Kennedy's murder and its investigation sees links with a bagful of sensational stories, including the killing of Martin Luther King Jr. The links connect with the main contention in "Legacy of Secrecy/The Long Shadow of the JFK Assassination" (Counterpoint, 848 pages, $33), by Lamar Waldron with Thom Hartmann, that the assassination was engineered by Carlos Marcello, longtime Mafia boss in New Orleans.

I still say it’s our government that did it. They are the only ones that have the means to do it.

Probably all tied in; but the government is the only one that had the means to really cover it up.

Think about your assertion:
The government carries off 3 high profile hits with each implication only going one person deep?
No, this was Mafia work.
They’re much more capable of cleaning up trails of dirty laundry than the government.

I do find it plausible that the mob had a hand in the JFK assassination. The Kennedys happily accepted assistance from the mob in getting JFK elected, and then double-crossed them. I suspect old Joe would have advised against RFK’s attack on the mob had he not been incapacitated by a stroke. Old Joe was a scoundrel, but he wasn’t stupid.

I also found the book DoubleCross to be very believable. I believe the mob was involved in some way.

Some years later, the book says, Marcello brokered a deal that paid James Earl Ray to kill Martin Luther King Jr. It also finds that Marcello's biographer, John H. Davis, and journalist David E. Scheim made "compelling cases" for Marcello's involvement in the killing of Robert Kennedy. So assassinations got to be kind of a hobby for Carlos Marcello? That's a little too hard to believe.
