Barack Obama, who takes over as U.S. president from George W. Bush on January 20, broke his silence about the violence in the Gaza Strip on Tuesday, calling the loss of civilian lives in Gaza and in Israel a "source of deep concern for me."
Obama added he would adhere to his principle that only Bush should be the voice of U.S. foreign policy at this time but he would have plenty to say after his inauguration in two weeks.
Nonetheless, Obama said that he is "not backing at all from what I've said during the campaign we're going to engage effectively and consistently in the peace process."
"We've got plenty to say about Gaza, and on January 20, you'll hear directly from me," he added.
Meanwhile, the United States on Tuesday signaled some flexibility over Israel's offensive on the Gaza Strip, saying it would like to see "an immediate ceasefire" but emphasizing any such agreement must be durable, sustainable and indefinite.
U.S. State Department spokesman Sean McCormack also said Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice's trip to the United Nations on Tuesday was designed to show that the United States was open a variety of ways to achieve a cease-fire. "We would like an immediate cease-fire, absolutely," McCormack told reporters, speaking after Israeli tank shells killed at least 40 Palestinians at a United Nations school where civilians had taken shelter. "An immediate cease-fire that is durable, sustainable and not time-limited."

More like he broke wind.
Obama added he would adhere to his principle that only Bush should be the voice of U.S. foreign policy at this time ...
so Obama, everything you said about Iraq?
Wonder if Israel's timing has anything to do with the president-elect.......
I hope Israel is finishing up by then.
So does Present Obama.
He hasn't a clue, and will do what his handlers tell him to.
He would make the war in Gaza even more of a disaster
For Israel and any other countries fighting terrorism
He will part the water with great gas....
Barack 16:66 - Though his mouth moveth, bellowing out great torrents of lofty words, He sayeth nothing. Yea, the people still marvel at him, wondering, “who here can compare to Him?”
"Just call me if you need me." Pathetic worm.
Flexibility, my Aunt Fanny. This statement is "flexibility?"
The only signal the U.S. is sending is more of the same as before.....a weakening, a backing-off, a backing-down, a betrayal.....and an incredible cowardice.
Not to mention a buckling of the knees now that Iran has rattled the war drums.
Bush is true to form again.....getting everyone all excited over his backing of Israel, and then doing his usual back-tracking. I can't stand this man.
Either back Israel all the way or withdraw the backing and cut out the deviousness. There's no middle ground here, Mr. President.

His "principle" was developed a bit late, but I'm glad he is adhering to it at this time, as it is the right thing to do.
I’m sure going to sleep better knowing that Barry is soon going to have his finger on the button /sarc
The “3:00am phone call” is here and Odumbo send the call to voice mail.
he breaks his silence
er yea he said I will speak about it soon.
what a pathetic man he is, no leadership what so ever.
Now if it was about voter fraud, illegal money and his mouthpieces the media he would tell us all about it
The Snooze Button, that is.
You're supposed to just stand there, mouth hanging open in awe, and adore him. You aren't supposed to actually listen to what he's saying. When he talks, it's the oratory equivalent of Muzak.
Captain Zero strikes again!!!!
Which testament is that in? :)
Just read this last week and realized that I may see this passage fulfilled.
