Will America Unite in One Obama?
by Edward Hudgins
December 29, 2008 - George W. Bush ran for president as a uniter, not a divider. He only managed to unite Republicans and Democrats in disappointmentthough for different reasonswith his administration.
Barack Obama sounded the same theme: Were all in this together! Will he succeed where Dubya failed?
Divided States of Americans
Many Americans have seen in recent years the culture and politics growing more mean and coarse, contentious and uncivil, malicious and malevolent.
Were bombarded by coast-to-coast belly-aching on 24-hour cable news channels where were likely to encounter shout-fests. Talk radio has its screamers as wellMichael Savage, Mark Levine. On websites like the Daily Kos and Huffington Post we run into vicious personal attacks, and on almost any online discussion thread well probably be burned by flame wars.
Entertainers and celebrities wear their mostly nutty left-wing politics on their sleeves while many members of their audiences want them to shut up and stick to their acting and singing. Other individuals, depending on their perspective, patronize or boycott companiesStarbucks, Ben and Jerrysthat are as well known for their politics as their products.
Will this nastiness never end?
United in One Obama
And then theres politics. Political campaigns are usually cutthroat and divisive affairs. And theyre usually followed by calls for unity and lets-work-together bipartisanship.
With Barack Obama elected the first black president, were getting an especially strong dose of dawn-of-a-new-era and lets-hold-hands-and-sing-Kumbaya rhetoric.
Obama ran as a candidate who transcended race. He did not focus on the black issues that limited the appeal of Jessie Jackson and Al Sharpton when they campaigned for the White House. Rather, Obama ran as a guy who wanted to address issues affecting all Americans.

I gotcher ‘Kumbaya’ right here!
Only if he proves his citizenry to be in line with our constitution.
In a word, no.
In two words, Hell no.
I will not be united with something or someone antithetical to the US Constitution and our way of life.
Right..rampant Socialism and the destruction of the Constitution WILL affect all Americans.
I fully agree with your assessment. I wonder if the troops will have to swear allegiance directly to Obama instead of the Office as Commander In Chief.
I see Obama being the only thing that holds his ‘dream’ together and as long as he lives he’ll have a politically correct hold over the presidency the same way Mandela does over South Africa.
I feel about as much as “united” as the MoveOn.org crowd felt about the outgoing administration.
a much more expensive government,,,
a much more intrusive government,,,
a much more controlling government,,,
a much more litigious government,,,
and much bigger nanny-state,,,
a much more socialistic government,,,
higher taxes,,,
a reduced military,,,
and a much more far-left liberal social agenda?
Yarite. Sign me up. /s
The Kenyan is not my president and the rest of the rats do not have their own interests in alignment with the country’s.
So why would I want to “unite” behind someone or group that does not look after the country’s interests or mine?
That makes you about as virtuous as they are then.
Unless things have changed drastically since I served, neither.
The only oath I took was to protect and uphold the Constitution of the United States. Against all enemies, foreign and domestic.
Seems to me, the troops would have great influence and cause to request that 0 prove he is constitutionally fit to be POTUS....it would require a large number to unite behind the cause though I would think they would be especially interested.
Just a thought
It depends.
When he crosses the Potomac for his Inaugural, will he part the water or walk on it?
*salute* I get it now. I tried, but was unable to really pinpoint what the troops swore to.
He will NEVER be my President!
If being virtuous means uniting behind an enemy of the USA, then call me the devil
Obama represents to me the net result of ever lowering standards that have been in play for a couple of generations now. That this country is far gone enough to elect a slimy socialist affirmative action empty suit with no qualifications to be President is something I will NEVER unite around. Just because roughly half the (public school educated, politically correct, speech code following, white guilt afflicted) country is far gone enough to buy into the bullshit from a slick talking con man doesn’t mean I have to buy into it as well.
I thought that troops were strictly forbidden from involving themselves in any politics or movements while serving.
