When she first made it known that she wanted to be appointed to take over Mrs Clinton's seat, Miss Kennedy, 51, the daughter of the assassinated President John F. Kennedy, seemed a near certainty for the job.
But in the course of a few weeks she has alienated Governor David Paterson of New York, who has the sole power to make the appointment, and the American press, including the elite New York Times, which is a powerful influence on Democratic officials.
During an interview with the paper she stumbled badly, fuelling comparisons to Governor Sarah Palin of Alaska, whose bid for the vice-presidency was blighted by a series of disastrous interview with Katie Couric of CBS News.
Perhaps most damaging of all was her repeated use of the phrase "you know", which she uttered 142 times and was left in the transcript when it appeared in print.
Explaining why she would be a good Senator, she said: "So I think in many ways, you know, we want to have all kinds of different voices, you know, representing us, and I think what I bring to it is, you know, my experience as a mother, as a woman, as a lawyer, you know, I've been an education activist for the last six years here, and, you know, I've written seven books two on the Constitution, two on American politics.
"So obviously, you know, we have different strengths and weaknesses."
Now Miss Kennedy, who has never held an elected office and often neglected even to vote, is in danger of emulating her cousin Kathleen Kennedy Townsend, daughter of Robert Kennedy, who was shot dead in 1968 while he was a Senator for New York.

Caroline sometimes has been funny.
Purely genital, I think!!!
Her lack of capacity for lucid thought and speech is not a serious impediment in her bid for a Senate seat in a liberal state. In fact, it probably adds to her qualifications as far as the Democrat party is concerned. I guess our friends across the pond haven’t realized that yet, but their concern is appreciated and duly noted.
Okay, so she has Hitlery beat by about 20 "you knows".
If Hitlery is qualified then by God, why isn't Carolyn?
And don’t forget, she went to, you know, two ivy league you know, schools, Harvard, you know, and Columbia, you know, meanwhile Sarah Palin went to, you know, Idaho State University, you know, that is not ivy league, you know. My brain actually hurts from typing “you know” so many times. Good God is there actual DNA evidence to prove that Caroline is a Kennedy, hard to believe JFK and Jackie conceived such a moron
Caroline: "You know."
Barrack: "Uhhhhhh."
Caroline: "You know."
Barrack: "Uhhh."
Caroline: "You know."
Barrack: "Uh."
........
“Entitled.”
I think so. You think faster though. :-)
It's an hereditary problem obviously (if you know the truth).
If she’s lost the NYT, she’s lost, er, America.
The lib media shamelessly carried Hillary’s train and laid down in the mud for her to walk over on her way to the Senate.
This is not happening for Princess Caroline.
Her irritation at having to pretend to campaign and at being asked perfectly legitimate questions by common media wretches is palpable. Of course Gov. Paterson can still nose-thumb the electorate and appoint her, but all the fund-raising prowess in the world will not win HIM his election if he drops trou and moons the NY voters.
Her main problem with fellow libs is, of course, that she did not pay her dues over the years and spread some of that wealth around to build up party chits. No power brokers (save Obama) owe her any favors.
Why are they calling a 51-year-old, married woman “Miss”? Is it a British thing? Do they not use the abbreviation Ms. there?
Just curious. :)
What I find rather amusing is the fact that someone from such a “prestigious” political family would speak in an interview in this way... Even as a political “newbie” some years ago I knew better than to use my normal “at home” relaxed speech manner in an interview. I’m surprised someone like Caroline wouldn’t realize these things... Either she really does have that entitlement attitude that makes her believe that just because she is a Kennedy she should be above criticism, or she really IS a complete airhead!
That depends.
What is the last name of the one on the left? ~snort
It would be really funny if they quizzed her on the books she “wrote.” Pro’ly wouldn’t have a clue!
My mother and brother cured me of that problem back in the day by ruthlessly repeating it back to me every time I said “y’know.”
It worked, all right, but I’m still in therapy, (sniff!)
"Have you guys ever thought about writing for, like, a woman's magazine or something?" she asked, to which the reporter countered by asking what she has against women's magazines?

And yet, Governor Palin is still the unqualified for office dummie...according to the media wh*res.
**Caroline Kennedy repeats ‘you know’ 142 times in interview**
LOL!
I noticed from an Amazon.com check that not even she had the chutzpah to list her name BEFORE her “co-author’s”.
It is as good as a confession.
