LaHood was a moderate to liberal RINO. Good riddence.

Brian Williams just referred to him as “Roy” on NBC Nightly News.

If you recall during the impeachment when Livingston declined to serve as speaker and retired when he knew his personal failing were going to make him a smear target, Ray was the acknowledged easy choice for temporary Speaker as he was such a straight arrow that none could object to his fairness in the Speaker chair during that high tension period. Later, as all recall, Dennis Heastert became the official Speaker of the House for the balance of the Republican congressional majority, but LaHood was respected by enough members that he could hold the chair.

I felt that part of LaHood’s retirement had to do with his Lebanese heritage. He certainly took no pride in what happened in Lebanon during the Republican watch.

LaHood is friendly with the industrial labor unions, coming from Peoria. He is somewhat culturally conservative, but only on FR is that of paramount importance.

IMHO, he’s a RINO in a different sense that a lot of Freepers might think.

>>Am I wrong, or does it seem like a disproportionate number of folks from Illinois?<<

Well, to be fair, that worked out so well with all the appointees from Georgia in ‘76 the Dems probably just want to try again. :)

Am I wrong, or does it seem like a disproportionate number of folks from Illinois? With the confirmed corruption in the Chicago and Illinois machine, that causes me pause.

Sort of like the appointees from Texas over the last eight years.

ah the media swoon over his bi-partisanship and yet ignore the IL govt is taking over the feds.

Now correct me if I am wrong but aren’t IL is a right bad state at the minute and isn’t it because of how IL govt has ran things?

Change we can believe in, yep the IL state will be running the country from now on

spo he gets another IL crook on his team, .

seems it was a case of put me into a position or I’ll be telling the media how things are done here plus now obama will not have any of the goons coming after him from his state who knows how things work there as they now have been rewarded with a position

still the media will go on and on about this

this is what I think.

I bet these IL crooks have something on obama so to keep them quiet he gives them a position where he keeps an eye on them

How rediculous. People are going to regret Obama turning Washington into an annex of Chicago.

There are plenty of other RINO Republicans that Obama could still pick from. I just wish that Obama would pick John McCain for some cabinet post, so that the Arizona Governor would have to replace him with another Republican (has to by law).

It would also be nice if Obama would pick Senator Dick Lugar for something and make Governor Daniels pick another Republican for his Senate seat.

So why a Republican?

Because he was asked a question by a reportette today ... "where are the republicans you said would be part of your cabinet"?

What role will the Transportation Sec. play in the proposed highway/infrastructure program proposed by Obama? Will he be involved in the awarding of the contracts? Hmmm..
