It's Time to Junk the Electoral College [Soros alert] [massive barf]

In his election-night victory speech, Barack Obama said he would be a president for all Americans, not just those who voted for him. But as a candidate he didn't campaign with equal vigor for every vote. Instead, he and John McCain devoted more than 98% of their television ad spending and campaign events to just 15 states which together make up about a third of the U.S. population. Today, as the Electoral College votes are cast and counted state-by-state, we will be reminded why. It is the peculiar mechanics of that institution, designed for a different age, that leave us divided into red states, blue states and swing states. That needs to change.

If we eliminate the electoral college, candidates will simply need to pander to major metropolitan areas to win. Those of us who live in fly-over country will have NO VOICE.
The electoral college provides sparsely populated states with voice.

What is it with your foregone conclusions? ‘none of the Republicans that ran for the nomination in 2008 would have beat Obama’ and I paraphrase, ‘BO most certainly is qualified under the US constitution for POTUS’.
Jeez, you are one smug FReeper, reminds me of Dane and the Illegal Immigration threads.

It's Time to Have Soros and His Cohorts Climb the King's Rope.
King Charles I therapy for this kingmaker would also be a satisfactory alternative.

However, without the EC a decent GOP Candidate could have campaigned in Texas, California and New York and may have been able to cut into the 9,000,000 vote margin that McCain lost to Obama.
The most efficient strategy would be to promise the most goodies where the most people are and run up vote totals in those locations. I suspect there would not be much fun for rural folks.
A sure way to destroy a Republic.

I thought Obama won Liberals whine, bitch, and moan whether they win or lose; it's what they do best. They should be expert at it since they spend life times practicing.

amendment would never receive 38 ratifications Your facts are correct. However, your flaw is in assuming democrats respect the Constitution. The democrats respect for the Constitution extend only as far as they can re-interrupt the words. Do you really think democrats accept the words "three fourths" to actually mean 3/4s? The democrat's useful idiots are proof that five out of four liberals do not understand fractions. Liberals can be persuaded by democrats that three fourths has an altogether different constitutional meaning.
You can observe an excellent example of the democrats disregard for the Constitution by watching how they propose voting rights for Washington D.C. residents without amending the Constitution.

Keep the Electoral College. Toughen up voter registration and identification requirements instead!

Well if the electoral college is non-democractic, so is any legislative body that does not represent people on a per capita basis. Trash the Senate! And now that I'm thinking of it, what about the losing percentages of voters in any election? Trash the House of Representatives! Oh, I guess the POTUS must be shut down, too. And of course, the same logic goes for State government.
The only alternative is direct citizen votes on any and all governing matters, aka MOB RULE, aka anarchy. /s
