India has proof ISI trained Mumbai attackers: Sources
NDTV ^ | Thursday, December 04, 2008 5:46 PM (New Delhi)

India has proof that the Pakistan's intelligence agency ISI was behind the deadly Mumbai attacks. Sources have told NDTV that ISI trained the attackers.

The names of trainers and the places where meticulous training took place are also known to the government, the sources said.

The United States is believed to have even more evidence some of which it has shared with India, they said.

The US has told Pakistan that they have proof of terrorist outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba's role and sought the arrest of its chief Hafeez Sayeed.

Sources added it is hard to imagine that Pakistan army was not aware of Mumbai attack plan. They say Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari is not fully in control and the ISI and army are calling the shots

The deadly attacks on India's financial capital left 178, including several foreigners, dead.

Chairman of US Joint Chiefs of Staff Admiral Mike Mullen, who was in Pakistan on Wednesday, is believed to have told his Pakistani interlocutors that Washington had enough evidence to show a Pakistani hand in the attack, the sources said. (With PTI input)

well, it certainly appears New Delhi is setting the groundwork for some type of military action.

This is pretty similar to how they pinned the parliamentary bombings on the LET and ISI back in 02’

We better hope to God this story isn’t true. We could end up with a nuclear war on our hands.

Projections of the deaths from such a war are all in the tens of millions. The Defense Intelligence Agency predicts 17 million. They didn’t consider fallout, but their number assumes that both countries empty out their arsenals, so the final figure would probably be close to that—there will be some fallout unless every single weapon is an airburst, and it’s unlikely that they would fire every weapon...they’d want some for deterring other countries and maybe some followup tactical use, since over 90% of the population in both countries would survive the nuclear strikes and there’d probably still be a conventional war going full blast.

Imagine...roughly a third as many dead as WWII, all in two countries in less than 24 hours.

You’re correct...the DIA projects 17 million dead, but all of them are in Pakistan and India. There won’t be any effects felt here.

We better hope to God this story isn’t true.

Multiple Indian TV news channels are reporting that sources have told them the same thing. That seems to indicate a deliberate Indian gov effort to get this information out there. The likeihood is that this is true.

It certainly ups the ante. But perhaps just an attempt to force Pak to take action? Who knows...

December 4th, 2008 - 10:00 pm ICT by IANS -

New Delhi, Dec 4 (IANS) India is convinced “without a shadow of doubt” about Pakistan’s spy agency ISI’s involvement in the Mumbai terror attacks and is readying to present to Islamabad “a list of ISI handlers” who allegedly masterminded the terror strikes.“We are one hundred percent convinced that the Inter Services Intelligence (ISI) is involved in the Mumbai attacks,” a highly placed intelligence source told IANS Thursday.

“We know these attacks could not have been staged by an isolated militant group. There is not a shadow of doubt about that,” the source said. “We are zeroing in on the names of these ISI handlers and will present a fool-proof case (to Pakistan) soon,” the source added.

Indian intelligence agencies are preparing a list of ISI handlers of the perpetrators of the Mumbai massacre with the help of US intelligence, which is also convinced about the ISI’s role, the sources said.

......We could end up with a nuclear war on our hands.....

Why would this be a bad thing? It would be half the world around and only those Americans in the area would be affected.

It would be limited and short.

It might end the prospect of nuclear elsewhere for another hundred years

Imagine...roughly a third as many dead as WWII, all in two countries in less than 24 hours.

Actually I'm surprised the number is so low, considering the population densities in the larger Indian cities. DIA must be assuming that the bombs are targeted at military targets rather than at civilian population centers. Heck one MIRV air burst over the New York metro area could take out half that many and India and Pakistan have 90 - 145 nukes in their combined arsenals.

Its not that I'm in favor of nuclear war (like anyone is), but 17 million casualties aren't even going to slow down the Indian war effort. They have three times the population of the United States. Back to my New York example. If you nuked New York and killed 8 million people would it render the United States unable to fight or would it just make us real angry and willing to fight even harder. Pakistan with only 176 million people would be hurt in the exchange, but still could keep fighting.

If true, what an incredibly boneheaded move by Pakistan. What could they possibly hope to accomplish with such an action? Pure idiocy.

They brought gangbanger driveby crapola to a geopolitical nuke fight.

While I am no fan of nuclear war, I would like to see scores of dead muslim terrorists over what they did to the Indian people.

I know precisely who is responsible for planning this murderous attack in Mumbai: Pakistani MUSLIM TERRORIST CELLS.

So, India needs to even the score with the bastards or the MUSLIM TERRORISTS will do it again and again and again and again and again.

The mohammedans are gonna do another Beslan style attack again, as well. Bank on it.

no they aren’t, but maybe a general “hey, look here, we are tough on terror” tactic by the Paki govt may be helpful to ease tensions.

but now that I look at this new article by IANS quoting Indian intel sources they are convinced “without a shadow of doubt” ISI was involved, I think Pak is either going to crack down on ISI, turn over these ISI personnel OR India is likely to lash out somehow
