An anti-tax activist from upstate New York who is questioning whether President-elect Barack Obama is a "natural born citizen" eligible for the nation's top job said Tuesday that his non-profit group spent "tens of thousands of dollars" to get his message across in ads in the Chicago Tribune this week.

Robert L. Schulz, 69, chairman of We The People Foundation, took out ads Monday and Wednesday to raise questions about whether Obama's Hawaii certificate of live birth is authentic.

The ads echo accusations circulated online by some Obama opponents before the election. Cases challenging Obama's citizenship have been tossed out of local courts in several states, and Hawaiian officials have vouched for the authenticity of Obama's birth certificate, which is locked in a state vault. The Obama campaign likewise has always dismissed the accusations.

Nevertheless, some critics remain dubious.

I think the average reader will read, "An anti-tax activist from upstate New York...," and think, "nutjob," and then read, "Hawaiian officials have vouched for the authenticity of Obama's birth certificate," confirming their initial suspicion.

That is when the campaign said they “requested” it. My question has always been that he admits in his book to having possession of his birth certificate. Why didn't he produce that one instead of ordering one in 2007 ? Did he lose the original ? Now how many people lose their BC ‘s ? It isn't like you carry it around with you. Now he is supposedly this brilliant person. Attended Columbia, Harvard Law, and was an attorney. Wouldn't someone that brilliant keep such an important document in a safe place, like a safe or safety deposit box ?. Especially an attorney. If he is so careless with his own documents, what was he like with his clients - the few he had.

. Acccording to the U.S. law valid at that time, children born abroad to U.S. citizen aged 21 and over become U.S. citizens. At the time of Husein's birth, his mother was under 21.

Close. The US citizen parent had to reside in the US for 5 years after the age of 14, his mother was 18, therefore he could not be a Natural born citizen if he was born in Kenya.

I'm thinking "Why would anyone choose to spend a fortune on legal bills, rather than produce a document that he should have easy access to?"
