Costco has 520 stores nationwide. But you will not find "Christmas" in a single store.
That's because Costco says it will not use the term "Christmas" on its website or in its stores. Instead, Costco is telling customers it purposely chooses to use the generic "holiday" verbiage. You know, they stock holiday gifts, not Christmas gifts.
Last week, a customer wrote to Costco and asked this direct question "Does Costco use the word 'Christmas' in your store advertising or on any signs anywhere in your stores during the Christmas season? That's a pretty simple question, yes or no."
Kory Rosacrans, staff manager for Costco replied, "I guess the answer would be No."
Rosacrans said, "Costco does not advertise on television, on radio or in print like other retailers. We only advertise by mailings and e-mail messages sent directly to our members who have paid for the privilege of shopping with us."
Costco wants you to do your "Christmas" shopping with them, while refusing to recognize that Christmas even exists.
My answer is "no" regarding shopping at Costco this Christmas season or ever.
How do you feel about ‘Giving Trees’?
Hate em. We buy Christmas Trees and say Merry Christmas!
Not a surprise; they’re generally also big contributors to the DNC.
Buh bye Costco.
I am sticking to Walmart and Target.
Besides, who the heck needs those wasteful stale giant commercial food jars clogging up the refrigerator? Where is the savings in that?
Costco has every right, as a private firm, to choose such a policy.
And customers have every right to decide where they wish to spend their money.
Personally, I’m not offended by the “no-Christmas” policy, but I sympathize with those who are. If they decide to shop elsewhere for this reason, they should let Costco know why they made this choice.
I suppose then people should buy “holiday” gifts (whenever that might be) from Costco and Christmas gifts somewhere else since Costco doesn’t have any of those...
Target?
No difference when it comes to Christmas.
Christmas is a time to celebrate “good vibes” and have “nice thoughts”, as expressed with a “giving tree”;
Thanksgiving was a feast in which some later-to-be-proven-treacherous European colonists thanked the pacific and noble Native Americans for sharing their food with them; and
July 4th is the day some slave-holding white Europeans decided to take their plantations off the English tax rolls.
(lessons from a modern history book...)
Damn, didn’t know this. They can keep their stuff!
I know people of different faiths or atheists who are more offended by people thinking being wished a merry christmas would offend them than being wished a merry christmas ever would.
That’s a losing marketing strategy. Costco, huh?
Walmart IS on the Merry Christmas list with AFA.
I think you’re being overly sensitive. They sell “Christmas” trees, “Christmas” ornaments, nativity sets, wrapping paper that says “Merry Christmas”. They do try to avoid the word Christmas in their advertising but their customer base is diverse. They aren’t hurting for customers. Your personal boycott is not going to have much effect.
They're a gaggle of corporate effete snobs anyway!
I may be a weird one, here, but I think that the spirit of Christmas is SO TOTALLY against the spririt of crass commercialism that I am boycotting “CHRISTMAS” at all retail stores, anyway.
Do a search on “Advent Conspiracy” on Youtube.
I thought that I might see a few Christians join me. Sorry you won't be with us.
Oh, what a shame. I guess if one wants to buy CHRISTMAS gifts, and CHRISTMAS trees, and CHRISTMAS decorations, and all other assorted CHRISTMAS paraphernalia, one will have to go somewhere else other than COSTCO, because they dont sell such things.
I concur. Fits right in with the school's 'Winter Break'.
BTW, Merry Christmas.
I asked one of the bosses: "What "Winter Event" are we celebrating? We're in Florida so it can't be snow."
She just stood there with a blank expression and didn't answer the question.
