Two massive books by Lamar Waldron and Thom Hartmann, most recently Legacy of Secrecy have me going back to the Mob hit theory although I just dont buy their unnecessary post-assassination cover-up theory which involves a supposed coup against Castro. Like that was more shameful than the murder of a president. But theyve done a service by digging up the deepest, darkest, most disturbing archival evidence to support their Mob hit theory.
Anyway, Im interested: what do people think, those of you who still think about it? Some may say, who cares well never know, its old news, but Im not satisfied with that. Historical truth means a lot to me. At one point LBJ said nuclear war was at stake. I want to know if there was someone behind Oswald and why. Its more important than how Yale could allow Harvard to score two touchdowns (and two two-point conversions) in 42 secondsthough I still cant reconcile myself to that either...

NOVA did a good video on this subject. A guy filled a human skull with white paint and animal brain tissue and shot it off a ladder from behind. Instead of the frying forward it went backward just like Kennedy.
“and being inadequately familiar with it had an accidental discharge when Oswald started firing”
See, I wonder why anyone bothers to come up with an alternative theory under those circumstances. Given that it was physically possible for Oswald to have shot him, and the wounds were consistent with Oswald’s position, the overwhelming odds against the coincidence of a well-trained agent accidentally killing the man he has sworn to protect at the exact same moment someone else is trying to kill him are prohibitive against me believing the scenario. Man, do conspiracy nuts ever bend over backwards.
Like I said, it was probably just a coincidence. If there was a connection, it could have been a warning or revenge. Robert Kennedy was his Atty Gen., and would have been in charge of the Justice Dept. that was in charge of the investigation or whatever you call it. Getting rid of the top brother was getting rid of the other brother as well. I don’t think RFK stayed on too long under Johnson. The trial was most probably cancelled for the day once the assassination occurred. And Robert Kennedy also was gunned down several years later. Who knows what was really going on behind the scenes?
“Could have been Jack Ruby...why else would he shot Oswald? To keep him ‘quiet’ perhaps?”
Again, after he had been in police custody for two days? That Ruby sure was on the ball.
“It’s amazing how all the JFK conspiracy theorists share all have one trait in common: they all write in an incoherent style.”
They have another trait in common: they all use inconsistencies in official evidence as proof of their own theories, for which they have no evidence. Oh, and they all ignore the official evidence that has no inconsistencies, which by the way vastly outweighs the ambiguous evidence.
All hat, no wattle.
“Getting rid of the top brother was getting rid of the other brother as well. I dont think RFK stayed on too long under Johnson.”
No, he didn’t stay on all that long. But what assurance was there that the man Johnson chose to succeed him would be any better? Really, what are the odds that a new Attourney General would scrap a case already in the works even if he didn’t care as much as RFK about destroying the mob. Killing the president is way too much of a risk with absolutely no guarantee of success on the other end. Mafiosos are businessmen (of a sort), not lone nuts.
By the way, the same goes for all the Soviet/Castro conspiracy theories. What they could have expected to gain was nothing compared to what they were risking.
Fredo Corleone.
How come all the bad guys have 3 names?
Oswald spent some time in Russia. He may have been given the mission there.
This wasn’t a theory. It was just a musing. There have always been those that believe the Mafia had something to do with the murder of the Kennedy brothers. I just was pointing out the coincidence of the timing of the Marcello deportation trial, which just happened to be on the day Kennedy was assassinated.
To me its a “dead “issue . Cost me a POA that Friday when I was putting the moves on a sweet young thing in study hall.
“Oswald spent some time in Russia. He may have been given the mission there.”
From what I’ve read, the Russians didn’t give two craps about Oswald. Generally speaking, they had too many problems of their own to worry about taking care of foolishly idealistic American expatriates. I seem to recall Oswald attempting suicide so he wouldn’t be thrown out. The same goes for Cuba. Those guys wouldn’t even let him in the country.
Now, none of that means they didn’t use Oswald for their own purposes. All the bureaucratic red tape Oswald encountered trying to become a happy communist citizen could have all been a ruse. But why bother employing Oswald to shoot Kennedy? What was there to gain? What assurance did they have that Johnson would be better? What assurance did they have that their complicity wouldn’t be found out?
I seem to remember reading somewhere that LBJ went to his grave thoroughly convinced that Castro had been responsible for arranging JFK's assassination.
First of all, the shot or shots were pretty remarkable, not necessarily for the accuracy but the speed in which they were fired.
Also having a Mafia character shoot the shooter was something right out of the movies.
I would bet the Mafia, Cubans, or KGB. My money would be on Castro and the Mafia.
“This wasnt a theory. It was just a musing”
I believe you, but watch out. That’s how these books get written. Conspiracy nuts will grasp at whatever’s available.
I don’t have any theory of who killed JFK, but I do have one about why he might have been killed.
JFK had Addison’s disease. Also known as chronic adrenal insufficiency, hypocortisolism or hypocorticism, it is a rare endocrine disorder in which the adrenal gland produces insufficient amounts of steroid hormones. The most common symptoms are fatigue, muscle weakness, weight loss, vomiting, diarrhea, headache, sweating, changes in mood and personality and joint and muscle pains.
Importantly, most people with primary Addison’s have darkening (hyperpigmentation) of the skin, including areas not exposed to the sun. The unusual appearance of the skin might be noticeable even to laymen, and it alone would suggest Addison’s to a physician familiar with the disease.
When a journalist had asked him about the unusual tinge of his skin, Kennedy replied with uncharacteristic candor, The doctors say Ive got a sort of slow motion leukemia, but they tell me Ill probably last until Im 45. So I seldom think about it except when I have the shots.
Kennedy was wholly dependent on the cortisone therapy that Addisonians rely upon for survival. Initially, he took 25 milligrams of cortisone by mouth; he then took it through injection. Also, he had implanted in his thighs DOCA tablets of 150 milligrams, which were replaced several times a year. There are even reports that the Kennedy family kept a reservoir of DOCA and cortisone in safety deposit boxes around the country so that Jack would have ready access to these medications wherever he traveled.
In the early 1960s, the only effective treatment for Addison’s was large doses of cortisone. And this was critical. Until synthetic versions of cortisone were developed, it had several severe side effects. What was *incorrectly* believed at the time to be one of these side effects was clinical and acute paranoia.
In 1956, the very popular Hollywood stars James Mason and Walter Matthau were in a movie entitled “Bigger Than Life”, in which Mason takes cortisone pills and is driven dangerously insane by them. Mason, a superb actor, gave a chilling performance in the movie.
Thus, the chain of logic is straightforward.
1) The President of the United States has Addison’s Disease.
2) The medicine he is taking for his disease will make him insane.
3) The President of the United States has already come close to starting a nuclear war in the Cuban Missile Crisis.
4) Nuclear weapons cannot be left in the hands of a madman.
This seems to be all the justification that would be needed by whoever would assassinate JFK.
