I am seriously thinking of taking to steps to go to a survivalist approach planning to survuve total chaos and financial and institutional break down. Some one please help me see why this is not going to happen. Thanks

Just a little nit to pick - what we have experienced so far is not severe inflation, but rather severe deflation [of asset prices].
In a deflationary environment, you do not want to be invested in fixed assets - you want to be invested in cold, hard cash.
Now that's not to say that Obama & Bernanke won't inflate the currency into the stratosphere, but, for the time being, inflation is not our immediate concern.
Rather, our immediate concern is their gun-grabbing and their creation of a brownshirt civilian defense corps.
And, beyond that, the general breakdown in law and order which will ensue as the USA starts to look less and less like the country we grew up in, and more and more like South Africa or Zimbabwe.

I’m way down that path already (bought my mountain side retreat a decade ago) so I cannot comply with your request. Instead I’d suggest you go to the very sensible information at www.survivalblog.com and start planning in earnest for the future.
It’s important that we constitutionalists survive the collapse and pass on our knowledge and values to the coming generations, because the new country will have to be built on something.
Maybe your problem is that you aren’t looking for reasons TO prepare for the SHTF that everyone keeps fearing. Your predecessors fought the Fed. Reserve Bank, the New Deal, and the Great Society.

Sooner or later there will be another civil war. We’ve gone beyond any kind of peaceful reconciliation. I have no doubt the left can be defeated in a real fight, as they believe nothing is worth dying for. What worries me is a foreign invasion while we’re taking care of business.

My 401k is also in cash, but now I worry about the D’s proposals to seize 401k’s and fold it into SS. I’m near retirement, and would be quite disgusted should this happen.
