I need some positive reasons why not to plan for a SHTF scenario.

Posted on 11/16/2008 3:15:11 PM PST by rfmad

I am seriously thinking of taking to steps to go to a survivalist approach planning to survuve total chaos and financial and institutional break down. Some one please help me see why this is not going to happen. Thanks

It never hurts to hoard food. Just make sure you rotate your stock.

The problem with generators is they make noise and need gas. Pretty hard to lie low when you have a noisy, smelly motor running.

Then there is the problem of protecting your generator from people who don’t have a generator but do have guns.

if they are still accessible, there were lots of Y2-K threads back in 1999 that gave great advice on how to prepare for the inevitibale breakdown in society.

You might be able to purchase a lot of MRE's and other stuff for pennies on the dollor from those folks who still have them in their basements............

We already know from the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina that our civilization can break down. Of course that event was regional in scope, but there are PLENTY of triggering events that would be national in scope.

And, in the case of a national breakdown, there's no knight to ride in on a white horse.

I call ammo "candy." You've been good and you deserve extra candy, right AFM? ;-) Happy, Happy Anniversary...and many, many more. :-)

It sounds like you've got a "Good One," too. (Hubby, that is.)

These guys are great. I have like 6 of them. Just screw them on top of a propane bottle, and you have almost the equivalent of a 100W bulb.

Do you have any recommendations as to which state is best to relocate to?

Every state has rural. You'll find the government dependents (democrat once-a-monthers, and grant/endowment liberals) in the cities, but the rural areas have people who work, physically, every day to get by. The farmers could use the extra hands.
Find a farm as far away from the city as you can. If you're willing to work, they'll put you up and feed you. They won't have access to stores either, so they'll need good, honest bodies to help them.

Doesn’t matter who’s in the White House or Congress. Being prepared to provide for and able to protect yourself is never a bad thing. As with everything though you need moderation. Don’t sell everything you own to purchase guns ammo and storable food. Survivalists have been given a very bad incantation by the media. It seems it has become a bad thing to be prepared to take care of yourself.

Maybe you would prefer it stated this way. I’m preparing to adopt a very low carbon foot print life style.

Whenever I'm at my parents' and I'm in a room near the Generac and it fires up, I jump sky-high...and my dad laughs. :-)

I take note and "get him back" when he least suspects....

Thank you.
Yes, he is a keeper. When I first broached this subject to him, I thought he would talk some sense to me, like “ take off your tinfoil hat”. That he was on board made me feel as though I wasn’t going off the deep end, I’ve been uneasy since election night and I guess he has been too.
It’s good to be scared, keeps you on your toes.
