Sean Eaton, owner of Fletcher Arms in Waukesha, says gun sales have been brisk since the election of Barack Obama. Customers are worried that the new administration will severely restrict gun sales, he said. Handgun purchases in Wisconsin skyrocketed 82% in the days before and after Barack Obama's election as president compared with the same 13 days in November last year, figures on state background checks show.
Most of the early November background checks took place after the Nov. 4 presidential election, a sign that gun owners anticipate new restrictions with Democrats taking control of the federal government.
Calls for background checks that are required for the purchase of handguns have flooded the state agency. In the first 13 days of the month, 2,642 background checks were requested. During the same 13 days last November, the number was 1,453, state Justice Department spokesman Bill Cosh said.
Tom Smith of Eagle said Friday that he purchased two handguns, a .22-caliber snub nose and a .45-caliber semiautomatic, in the days before the election when it became clear Obama would win.
"I bought them because I was afraid they were going to be

In KY, too. I was able to get 2 boxes of .38 Special and that cleaned out my friends gun shop stock. He’s scrambling to get guns and ammmo, but is doing well from teaching CCW. His indoor range is packed.
CCW?
I am gettng suspicious of these repeated articles. It is like the press is highlighting this issue so the lefty dems can call for more gun control by citing the increased arming by citizens.
BTW, it would be nice if someone would note, all these are legal gun sales to citizens who are not felons, at least not till the law changes make them so.
Vince
Sorry, tyuping like a mad person this morining. Concelaed carry course.
The interesting thing I take from the articles is; no one from the incoming BO administration is saying its a bad idea.
Thanks. I did guess that CC stood for Concealed Carry, but didn’t know how the W fit in there. I thought maybe it meant Concealed Carry Weapon or something.
I heard from a friend in Wisconsin just yesterday who is seriously considering buying an AR now that the Obamessiah will take office.
I wonder how long it will be before Obama and his Democrats in Congress bring up gun ban legislation.
I been thinking about making a purchase, but I am not sure what is most sensible to buy. Money is tighter than I would like right now.
“I am gettng suspicious of these repeated articles.”
...I was too Vince until I dropped by my local gun store to pick up some 9mm ammo....they were very busy...and it’s not just pistols either....long gun counter at Wal Mart was jammed this week.
.....and BTW these articles are about LEGAL gun sales at FFL dealers....no telling what’s going on privately....I’m thinking about picking up an off-the-record piece myself...you never know.
Check with your favorite gun shop owner to see what’s selling. Any of the AR derivatives would be a good investment.
Glad to hear that some people still have some sense. My husband says there are enough citizens left that won’t stand by while BHO destroys our country’s essential nature. Hope he is right.
The AR has crossed my mind, but it ain’t cheap. And then again, it’s just goning to get more expensive if a ban comes on deck in 2009.
Someone trying to drive up their own sales maybe, because it really isn't happening according to a story posted here.
I know there are tons of FReepers who could advise you on a purchase. Maybe they’ll drop in here.
There’s a gun show in Raleigh, NC next weekend and I wanted to see about another purchase, but the hand gun permit can take up to 30 days to be approved. I don;t think I have time. Maybe a rifle or shotgun.
Hope you can get to the point of being able to get something. God knows there may come a day when we’re glad we spent the money.

...if I had to choose just one gun...it would be hard to beat a 12 guage pump action shotgun....they are fairly inexpensive (under $200)on the 2nd hand gun market....if you get one that’s been taken care of they’ll last forever...I hunt with a Model 12 Winchester that my grandfather bought new in 1914!
Figure on not getting much change back from your $1,000 bill. Maybe a used rifle. Gun Shows ?
I read 1980 South African minorities(I know, extreme example) were per capita on the Afrikkan side, the most heavily armed people on the face of the planet. It wasn’t the quantity of weaponry. It was the will to use them that mattered. They never fired a shot because they were suffocated culturally at home and by forces abroad.
I wonder if all these people buying guns/ammo voted for Obama?
Yet another poor title from the MSM: it’s not reported as a run on guns, but rather a run on gun sales. What is a run on gun sales?
Vince,
THIS is why folks are ARMING THEMSELVES:
WHY THEY WANT OUR GUNS!!

And if B.O., Schumer, Fineswine, et al DO make a grab at the guns, the result will be the same as it was back in 1775 when the Brits tried it.
