Thanks. I did guess that CC stood for Concealed Carry, but didn’t know how the W fit in there. I thought maybe it meant Concealed Carry Weapon or something.

I heard from a friend in Wisconsin just yesterday who is seriously considering buying an AR now that the Obamessiah will take office.

I wonder how long it will be before Obama and his Democrats in Congress bring up gun ban legislation.

I been thinking about making a purchase, but I am not sure what is most sensible to buy. Money is tighter than I would like right now.

Check with your favorite gun shop owner to see what’s selling. Any of the AR derivatives would be a good investment.

I know there are tons of FReepers who could advise you on a purchase. Maybe they’ll drop in here.

There’s a gun show in Raleigh, NC next weekend and I wanted to see about another purchase, but the hand gun permit can take up to 30 days to be approved. I don;t think I have time. Maybe a rifle or shotgun.

Hope you can get to the point of being able to get something. God knows there may come a day when we’re glad we spent the money.

...if I had to choose just one gun...it would be hard to beat a 12 guage pump action shotgun....they are fairly inexpensive (under $200)on the 2nd hand gun market....if you get one that’s been taken care of they’ll last forever...I hunt with a Model 12 Winchester that my grandfather bought new in 1914!

What's 'sensible' to you may NOT be 'sensible' to someone else and is a hard question to answer.

As to money: a 'Defender' type shotgun can be had for about $250.00 NEW from many manufacturers. The SKS noted above is also 'cheap'. Used Colt or S&W revolvers in excellent condition are also inexpensive. So are some 9mm semi-automatics.

Oh and one 'assault rifle' always on the gun grabbers list is the Hi-Point Carbine (9mm), they go for about $200.00 NEW (I have one).

I hope I didn't totally confuse you :-)
But as you see selecting a firearm is a very personal thing.

I been thinking about making a purchase, but I am not sure what is most sensible to buy. Money is tighter than I would like right now.

Home defense or revolution against Tyranny and oppression?

I can't put it any blunter than that.

If you are looking for cheap home protection, a simple unadulterated shotgun is all you need., Believe it or not it is what most Marines on guard duty carry while NCO are issued 45's. I recommend progressive loading, deer slug in first to be fired last followed by double aught buckshot and lastly birdshot or rock salt in the chamber, or scare wound, kill.

I know I'll catch flack for that one but if you are talking about home defense, real home defense you don't want a lethal round in the chamber unless you live alone.

A simple pistol can also be a good home defense weapon preferably a revolver since they don't have to be chambered.

Now if you are talking about armed insurrection against the forces of a brutal dictatorship there are other choices to be had besides the basic black rifle and it's Russian variant based upon how well you can shoot. Most people without practice can hit a target inside a 100 yard with a rifle of any sort so buy one of the cheaper ones chambered for a round bigger than a 22 caliber but not an odd size.

So what is an "odd size", that depends on where you live, but let's call it whatever your local Wal Mart, Sporting Goods store and Gun shop doesn't carry regularly and has to special order.

Or in other words that vintage Japanese 7.7MM war trophy heavily modified sniper rifle someone has for under $250 (purposed exaggerated for content) isn't a good buy unless you can buy enough ammo to use it in a time of crisis or rebellion.

Luckily Wal Mart and sporting good stores that sell weapons and ammunition are staffed by people that want to sell you what ever you need and are willing to let you know what they have if you can find that happy salesperson wanting to aid you in a purchase of either a gun, ammunition or both.(BTW for a short period of time I was one of those happy Wal Mart ammunition sales people).

But what are your other options? There is what I like to call the "short rifle" or as it is more commonly called the carbine.

Most carbines are chambered for pistol ammunition and are very effective at ranges under 200 yards ideal for those of us, like myself that have trouble seeing objects past that point.

I'm presently looking into a specific type of carbine that has delivered on great promises of accuracy, economy, and durability, and rather then create a run on this type of gun I'm withholding the info until I actually have one in my possession.

Obviously if I am correct about the viability of this weapon as the new Minuteman's weapon of choice, I fully expect the new administration to clamp down hard on the sales of such weapons. Personally I see it as even a bigger threat than your basic black rifle and for a third of the price.
