WASHINGTON (AP) From its humble beginning 33 years ago at Fort Sill, Okla., the career of Ann E. Dunwoody is ascending to a peak never before reached by a woman in the U.S. military: four-star general. At a Pentagon promotion ceremony Friday, Dunwoody was adding a fourth star and later, at Fort Belvoir, Va., her birthplace being sworn in as commander of the Army Materiel Command, responsible for equipping, outfitting and arming all soldiers. Just five months ago, she became the first female deputy commander there.

All right, you Maggots! There are many women who are SO good at this. I have picked up, supplied, reminded, cooked, cleaned, nursed, driven, maintained the vehicles and kept the base camp fires lit for so long, I could do it in my sleep. I defy any guy to do it better. I can do it for weeks on end with no sleep AND work 45 or more hours a week doing it for pay.
I say SALUTE to his woman. The only thing that surprises me is that she managed a smile for the photo. She can do me one better.
You're on Free Republic.
The Henny Youngmann King of political forums.
Those posters lack respect for others.
He husband is a retired AIR FORCE colonel. Must be some interesting dinner conversations....
I’ll bet she can multi task...
Which could be real handy if your a 4 star.
She was born at Fort Belvoir? Well, okay, it was nicer than Fort Dix or Fort Leonard Wood. But then, Fort Leonard Wood had some interesting nicknames.
I just have one question. Does Free Republic support our men and women in uniform, or not? Based on the replies to this thread, I think not. What say you?
Good for her!
Logistics isn't generally a career path to a 4th star. Maybe something else is in play? Hmmm.
I don't know the real story, I am guesing that is the reason for what you refer to as insulting replies.
Weaseley Clerk comes to mind.
I just watched “Gods and Generals” last night, mostly about Stonewall Jackson.
Now *there* was a general! “God’s hellcat.”
Robert E. Lee said, when Jackson’s arm was amputated, “He may have lost his left arm, but I have lost my right.”
Then shortly thereafter, Jackson died, a couple of months before Gettysburg.
I’m glad she was promoted to four-star general under Bush instead of under Obama.
Four Stars and no combat experience. Ya’ she will be a real asset. Affirmative action at its finest.
they never look like Laurie Dhue :(
Fort Lost in the Woods. My cousin was a teacher there for 35 years.
Very true. But Logistics are certainly crucial to winning any war. She must be darn good.
Thank you for your post BykrBayb & great appreciation to Lt. Gen. Ann E. Dunwoody for her service to this great nation.
Listen to YOU! As someone mentioned, Wesley Clark had “combat experience” and no body screamed Affirmative Action. You guys all stuck together, rolled your eyes and sucked it up. This kind of bashing belongs in the Middle Eastern culture, not the U.S.A.
