"But if she wants to run for president she's gonna have to get somebody to move to Anchorage, Alaska and help her take her game to another level," he said smiling. "Let's be clear about this ... it's really cold there most of the year."

"Let's be clear about this ... it's really cold there most of the year."

Unless Rove is trying to be funny, and it does not come accross in the text, this is a statement that smacks of the typical condescending attitude D.C. insiders have toward the rest of the country.

Laughable comments from Edwards... the most lightweight candidate in history; a failed 1-term Senator and a hedgefund lawyer giving advice to a sitting Governor? LOL

And I think even Palin knows she has work to do before her run in 2012. She’s astute enough to know that she has been given a golden opportunity and she’s going to play it for all its worth, which includes increasing her knowledge of foreign affairs and other areas where she will need to demonstrate more depth.

But she’s ahead of the game right now and at least she adheres and governs by conservative principles. As long as she remains true to those core values and adds breadth of knowledge needed to run for President, she’ll be very hard to defeat in 2012.

How do we KNOW for sure about Obama’s real education? No records forthcoming. Just hearsay. - Governor Palin is the one who has been endlessly given “pop” quizzes by the likes of “Katie” and “Charlie”, who in turn asked Obama and Biden those hard questions like, “Which do you prefer, Senator, boxers or briefs?”

The moment the MSM’s blatant disrespect of Govenor Palin became evident (which was off the bat), McCain should have SEEN IT, publicly denounced it, and immediately given access to her only to those media outlets that would have given her the proper respect.

Yes.

Diogenes, one more point that I believe you will appreciate. Joe the Plumber was a high point in the election but for me, greater that that was Tito the construction worker, remember him? Did you see the video of that wonderful man, that COLUMBIAN immigrant, in his broken english but passionate statement?

When I caught that I literally rose out of my chair in my own living room cheering that man with tears no less. I was shouting “That’s the kind of Hispanic I was raised among, RISE UP!!” Well, I’ll never forget Tito, I found the video clip and saved it, I view it often to remind myself...

Another friend, Juan Castillo, at the time in Rio Grande Valley, a LEGAL Alien (official INS designation), green card worker. Juan, married to native born Leticia, two children, had served in the US Army Infantry, fought in Vietnam, taught himself English, spoke excellent. Then one day asked if my wife and I would stand as his witnesses during his citizenship ceremony at the Federal Courthouse in Brownsville, TX. Our jaws dropped, we had no idea he was NOT a citizen. I asked him why he didn’t apply before enlisting and he said, “I felt that I had to prove myself for this wonderful blessing of a country before I became a citizen”. Can you imagine? In others words, be willing to die if necessary for his adopted country. The recent swearing in of new citizens in the Army remind me of Juan, remember, those soldiers enlisted BEFORE they were citizens, THESE are the Hispanics I will stand with.

No one had to pander and lie to my best friend Juan to believe in conservatism and the blessings of being a citizen, he used logic, sound reasoning and HEART and came to that conclusion. We need more Juans and Titos.

Actually, Wasilla is about fifty miles noth of Anchorage. It's a fair commute by car, and pretty tough in winter.

Actually when you live in a big states like Alaska or Texas, 50 miles still qualifies as suburbs. From her house on Lucille lake it is 44 miles to her Anchorage office, about the same distance as my house to downtown Houston. I live in the suburbs of Houston.

Since her everyday office is in Anchorage, I think I believe my original comments are accurate.

"She obviously is a smart woman with amazing political gifts. I just hope she hasn’t been permanently branded as a lightweight in the minds of most — a la Dan Quayle. If that has happened, she may never be able to overcome it."

Sarah being a lightweight is a phony argument!! Compared to Slick or Obama - it's no contest!!

Our job is to ignore all that garbage to stop it from being talked about.

I agree that Sarah is great, and that she has been unfairly and dishonestly characterized. Dan Quayle is not the person that most believe him to be, either, but he never overcame it. I just don’t have a sense of how badly Sarah is damaged outside our hard core of conservative believers. I hope she can overcome it.

You know, given that Sarah lives in the capitol, which is JUNEAU, I don’t think Rove has thought this out real well.... (Post 12 by JoeDetweiler)

I know where Sarah Palin lives. I also know that Rove’s remark was a snarky comment meant to suggest that Sarah needs “handling.” (Post 59 by JoeDetweiler)

Apparently you don't since she lives in Wasilla, just outside Anchorage, over 500 miles from Juneau. Rove's comment may have been snarky, however, your's was foolish, bordering on stupid. You can hardly make a compelling argument from a foolish beginning.

If you intended to make a comment about the validity of Rove's argument you should have done so. Instead you tried to make Rove look stupid with an off hand remark and instead made yourself look stupid. Then, rather than acknowledging your mistake and proceeding from there, you compounded it by denying it, immediately invalidating anything further you had to say.

You said a mouthful and I agree 100% with everything you said. I want Rove to shut up and go away. He is not our friend, never has been, and time for him to exit the Republican Party spokesman role.

In the past election, he did as much as he could without coming out saying that Obama should be President. Really disgusting. His debacle on a lot of issues including ACORN put us in this position. He always advised the President not to speak out when attacked. Well, Mr. Rove, that failed miserably and cost the Republican Party.

Hardly, and at this stage, I don't think it is a Karl Rove that Sarah needs. It is a Karen Hughes, someone to manage her public image. Sarah fans know who Sarah is, the public in general does not. They have an image that was constructed and conveyed by the MSM and the inside Washington crowd. For the next two years, she needs a communications director that insures her public image is the real Sarah Palin, the one we love. After the 2010 elections is when issue orientation becomes a factor.

Yes - I think we are on the same page.

Sarah has a lot more appeal than Dan Quayle. She can fire up a crowd & make them feel like she's one of them. Quayle was a good man - but very low key.

As far as those outside of hard core conservatives - we have to remember that any of our conservative choices will face the same demeaning press from the left.

My hope is that by the time we get through 4 years of Obamanation - there will be many willing to change their minds. If Sarah continues to govern in a conservative way - add to her broad knowledge - I think she will be a shoo in with that record to run on.

Ah, being called a lightweight by John Edwards. Sarah, I devoutly hope you saw that and took it to heart...because some dark day, you’re really going to need a good laugh.

And don’t worry, Karl. If she wants to be in the Show, as I suspect she does, she’s perfectly capable of studying up. And if you don’t go up to Wasilla to run the campaign, somebody will. And he or she will look like a stinkin’ genius.

nothing personal but I notice most freepers here who say those fears like you mentioned tend to be folks who present themselves as intellectuals

micro elitism

another oddity I find is that Sarah’s strongest support base is men more than women

Great Post.

the old Democrat party was largely no less socially conservative than the GOP particularly in Texas and the South till the late 70s when all that started changing and after Scoop Jackson died.

I agree about not pandering.

Folks will either believe in responsibility, values, patriotism, pro-life, gun rights and whatnot or they won’t.

Hard to be that vote. You are either born with it like me as a Mississippian, or raised with it or learn it on your own.

Look, Obama got a pass for the stupid things he said when he first started campaigning. Sarah didn’t. That’s wrong, but that’s what happened.

My fear is about the power of the press to irrevocably brand someone, albeit dishonestly and unfairly. Only time will tell how badly Sarah has been damaged.

Absolutely the GOP needs Latinos, and not blacks.

Blacks are 10% of the population and falling.

Latinos are the future! They are the only ones in the USA having babies. (I’m in CA so I know.)

“Rove is not a policy guy or an ideology guy. He’s the guy who can get you elected. That’s his job and he’s fairly good at it.”

Yep. And we don’t need a person who just knows to get elected. That’s what we have been doing since Reagan (with the presidency) and the Contract With America (94 COngress)

We need someone with a strong conservative phliosphical base and knows how to make decisions.

If you don’t know how to get elected, then knowing how to make decisions doesn’t much matter — because the only decision you’ll be making is if you want fries with your burger.
